On a cooking show, I learned that it's best to slice your hot dogs into three strips, and then add the fixins. Otherwise the condiments won't distribute properly through the hot dog. Now, do so with the bun open faced and the hot dogs laid out relatively evenly.
in Chicago if you ask for a catsup on your hotdog your going to be looked at as an alien from another planet. in a lot of hot dog joints it's not even an option.
No, sorry, we can all get along but it's mayo with Pom Frites (fries).

429 people have voted on this topic already, that's got to be some kind of record. Who knew condiment toppings on hot dogs would be such a hot button issue in America today.
With reports of Lonestar Tick bites leaving people with red meat allergies this year, I worry that my 5yo is going to starve to death as a result of a tick bite. That hot dog/bun toaster looks pretty cool to me right now, he pretty much survives right now on hotdogs. You could tell the kid 'Try this donut' and as soon as he hears the word "Try" it might as well be liver and onions.
Mustard is fine but optional on burgers and dogs. Less so on hotdogs, but either way it's in TINY amounts. I like chilli and mustard, but the chilli has to be free of onion chunks. Barf. Can. Not. Do. Onions.

I have lived in Seattle for the past 20 some odd years and have never heard of a Seattle Style Hot Dog. I guess I need to get out from under my rock more often. That's said I read the Wikipedia entry and do believe the Seattle Dog was invented by the guy that always has a food cart in Pioneer Square for the bar hoppers. Well I guess eating a Seattle Dog is my new item on my Bucket List.

Thumann hot dogs on the grill get mustard (and not that bright yellow kind) and relish. Sabrett’s get mustard and Kraut. Maybe those onions in the red sauce, but I don’t care for it. No Ketsup! That goes on burgers and fries if you don’t have any cider vinegar. Now if you’re having a real Italian hot dog from Jersey on half of that round bread, there’s two dogs, peppers and onions and potatoes. And still no Ketsup!
I’m not sure about those Chicago dogs, and as for that deep dish thing you call a pizza. Anything that you eat with a fork and knife is a casserole. But I do like your city.
