He's just slipstreaming behind the misdirection attempt started by Smokin "My God, it's a Lynch Mob!" Toaster. It's a red herring, but then again, the "Friends of Zimmerman" crew really got nuthin else.

nortonrider, you're really not doing yourself any favors with this "but whites were slaves, too!" tangent. It's really quite pitiful and pathetic to say the least.

The point the lawyer made is that legally, it only takes a period of 3-5 munutes to establish premeditation. Once the dispatcher say you don't need to follow, and now that it is established that he pursued Martin, it is enough to prove that he violently confronted Martin with malice and forethought.

Wow. I had no idea. I thought that "premeditation" was a plan conceived well before the action took place. Thanks for the info..

They must have been felons sentenced for a crime which would have put them in another category. Even still, about 12,000,000 slaves were imported to the Western Hemisphere between 1500-1880 by a famous conservative estimate. The number of white "slaves" in perpetual servitude would have been miniscule in comparison.

This is fairly interesting, and deserves it's own thread. I suggest you start one before this seriously derails the Martin discussion.

It makes me sad to see the narrow minded thoughts that some have expressed here.
If this forum is a snapshot of the attitude america has concerning racism, then I really don't see it ever going away.

People wont even speak honestly about the issue and if the problem can't even be identified honestly and completely, it can never be really addressed.

Point taken but from my perspective .... all the "What about what blacks do..?" and "What about other incidents" and other such statements are in just as poor taste. This kid was gunned down in cold blood... that man could have just pulled his gun and made a point if he felt threatened so all this objectivity and lets hear the facts malarkey is just as offensive to me as a man with a sheet on his head. The known facts of this case alone are enough to make any sane person reflect .... I have a 15 year old son and the mere thought of something like this happening to him brings tears to my eyes ... the scary part is it is very possible.

I see how you meant it now. It seemed (at the time) that you were saying it out of anger and attempting to strike out at whoever was disagreeing with you. Now I see the intention. Thanks for clearing it up.

I believe Zimmerman confessed to the shooting so he's already guilty.. He also lied about the self-defense thing but we can wait for the courts to flush that out.. The only question is how guilty, no if..

I just saw an interview with the Sanford city manager, the person who has the power to fire the chief. Frankly, he looked like a deer in the headlights. More to the point, he seemed scared s**tless. He does not want to have make a decision. He is talking about bringing in law enforcement to asses what the chief has done. It is clear to me that in Sanford a really terrible thing has been done, and now no one has the courage to do anything that is genuinely corrective, instead, they are passing the buck from person or department or commission to another.

I get the feeling that they are still trying to ride this out. I don't think they have a clue of how bad they look.

This is a good piece for people like me who are really incensed by this case. As guilty as I think Zimmerman is, he deserves due process, and the language against him should not be predjudicial.

Here is some perspective on arrests and the stand your ground law in Central Florida.

I think ppl keep arguing alot of diff points, but what about this. Even if you take color, race, etc away (which is difficult because it seems to be racially charged) and be left with what we know, what if it was YOUR child? I mean honestly, if that was YOUR child that just went out to the store and ended up shot unarmed, you cant tell me you wouldnt be outraged out how this is being handled, let alone your child being dead. I mean seriously. You honestly wouldnt want the support of the community for your child's life being taken wrongfully?

I mean if anyone here can honestly say after all that has transpired they would still be sitting at home privately saying "Well honey lets just give the police the time they need to do their jobs" I'll be thoroughly amazed.

This. We can debate and argue all we want, but when it's YOUR child - you don't think you'd ask the police to hurry up with the investigation? Don't lie.

Without even touching the racial angle, I've given this case lots of thought. I don't know all the details, but from what I do know, I believe the Sanford PD ROYALLY screwed up. Everyone is scared of controversy, but by taking action so slowly, they actually brought much more controversy on themselves then they would have by handling it properly. The shooter certainly appears to be in the wrong.

Whats sad, like I said before that many ppl ignored is the fact that if it was YOUR CHILD, you wouldnt be doing all this arguing about speculation, crowd support, etc. You or anyone else havent answered my question either. I think ppl would rather argue those things because it doesnt require them to put themselves in the situation. Reminds me of the lawyers final statement in "A Time To Kill".

Also what ppl are missing once again (that spawned other threads) is that alot of the media attention and protests were sparked by THE MOTHER's hard work in making sure this case traveled as far as she could send it. she sent mass emails, called the news, FB, etc. Thats part of the reason those other cases ppl were trying to counter with didnt get this attention. If I felt my child's case was horribly handled like this, I would do the same thing.

B only voiced their opinion that justice has not been done due to a law which can be (not necessarily is) a loophole for murder.

Problem is - they're voicing it in the wrong place.

The job of the police and judiciary is to uphold the rule of law, not to ensure that laws are just. The legislature that creates and modifies laws is the place to make that argument.

There's a hell of a big difference between a crowd demanding that justice be done and one ensuring an injustice be done.

Well... that is true if the crowd is demanding justice.

From what I've seen - this crowd is demanding what they believe to be justice, and they don't seem to care if what they believe to be justice is actually an injustice.

I think that is a poor argument for running a justice system.

If someone raped my wife - I'd want to kill them... but that doesn't mean it should be legal for me to do so, and it doesn't mean I shouldn't be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law if I do so.

The police and courts exist to uphold the rule of law.
