I would hope after this that anytime anyone with differing opinions goes in any retail store, a grocery store,clothing store,restaurant or any location and someone takes food out of the buggy,clothes they are trying on down from their fitting room door or food off their plate,they have absolutely no reason to be angry what so ever.

I went into a store looking to purchase an item,someone came up being rude trying to take it,when clearly item was being tested for purchase.They were asked what they were doing,then informed about it being tested,then persisted about the item and put in their place.Did I own it yet? No, but there are unwritten rules of courtesy in retail and without these rules the whole retail system would be chaos.

So yes,I would gladly put another rude dbag in his place.

I think you should re-evaluate who the "dbag" was. In typical "dbag" behavior you remain positive that you were in the right despite the fact that everyone else has made it clear that you weren't. You don't get to put dibs on a product in a store while you walk away to look at another one, especially when it's a steal.

And I'll repeat, when I found that Streamer Pro M for $499, there was no way on this earth it was going to leave my hands, or my sight. If I put it down and walked away from it, and someone else snatched it up, it's my bad, my loss, end of story. And fwiw, brand new Epiphone thunderbirds are currently being blown out for $199 at musiciansfriend, and all the other stores. With the 15% off you can get for black friday, and no tax, you didn't score such a great deal. For about $75 more you could have a brand new one, and without any aggravation, fight, or even having to leave your home.

When I was at NAMM a few years back, on the last day (when you get to buy off the stuff vendors don't want to take back home), I came across an awesome Rickenbacker ripoff that was being sold for $120. I told the guy I wanted it (they didn't speak english, but managed to communicate that the sales person was away for a moment and I had to wait for them to come back). I put the bass down, and guess what happened. It sucked, but I had to swallow it. I should have never let go of the bass. And yes, I did get into an argument with the guy, I did get steaming mad, I did walk around for an hour trying to figure out a way to get back at this dude ------- and then I did ultimately realized that I should have never put the bass down. I learned a lesson. You refuse to do that.

I won't even address the comparisons you made. I'm sure others will.

This thread has provided me with a new fun game to try. Next time i visit the US im going to stand at the counter in various music stores and watch as people come up to pay. When they let go of the bass and reach for their wallet i shall grab the bass and slap my money down first. then i shall point them towards this thread

When i just explained this plan to my GF she just looked at me, agreed and laughed evilly so now i know its #$%ked up (and i love her to death because shes always on board with these things)

You know that happens all the time during Black Friday here. Except it's 70 year old grandmas raiding your shopping cart for that last Little Brats doll for their grandkid. Normally sweet and motherly, but put a sale in front of them and they become lethal, warmongering terrors that will run you over with their carts and walkers. Musicians for the most part are thoughtful of others as we've got a sense of kinship - we congratulate those that make a major score on an item. Black Friday, the general public is absolute chaos. That's why most shoppers during this crazy time go in twos - one to grab the items, the other to guard the cart. I still have PTSD from trying to get a Wii for my children some years ago.

The only thing wrong with the Epiphone goth is the name. I've only played three, but they're really not that much different than the standard Epiphone Thunderbird...although the flat paint feels much smoother.
All you have to do is ungoth it a bit.

Thought I better jump in before it closes.
Its all about context!
The OP went to a guitar store that was having a major dump of all of its used gear to the point that guitars were stacked on top of guitars and prices were set to move gear quickly. That's a "super sale" or a "midnight madness sale" or a "black Friday sale" situation and in that context a lot of common courtesy goes out the window. Any one with a drop of common sense knows that in those situations if its not in your hands its not yours. If the OP really liked it he should have called over to the sales rep and told him to hold it for him while he checked out another bass. Put it down and walk away, and its as good as gone. Lesson learned.

If however this was just some lazy summer day and a bass that interested you was hanging on the wall and you took it down and tried it and wanted to A/B it with another bass which was only a few feet away (not the next isle over or in another part of the store) then the second party would be a DB to come grab it off the test stand and claim its his.

But I think the context of this shopping spree was more of the super sale example, in which case as upset as it makes the OP about having to tussle with another buyer the OP is just as much a DB as the other guy.

Needed a few last minute items for Thanksgiving dinner.One of the items was a pecan pie.

Strolled over to the bakery.No such luck they were all sold out.Just so happens though a fellow shopper had two sitting in their or should I say the stores shopping cart.

So given the Fair Game Mentality theory,I walked over and scooped one up out of the stores buggy the fellow shopper was pushing.

For whatever reason,the fellow shopper got unbelievably agitated at me.

I tried to explain to my fellow shopper that they hadn't paid for the pie yet,so it was fair game.They said it was in their cart but I explained that the cart didn't belong to them.It belonged to the store and that until they paid for the pie it belonged to the store as well.

So I took my pie and checked out.Maybe there is something to this theory after all.
