Atkinson basses... who owns one?

Vintage radius, vintage frets, no dots maple/rosewood USACG/Atkinson neck w/ vintage tint nitro on a 1999 american standard body with Fender '62 Reissue pickups.

If I needed a custom 4 I would not hesitate to pick one up from Dan ... I'd go for the USA neck upgrade!

Is there any amp EQ-ing going on behind the scenes here? Or is that all the bass?

Very little EQ on the preamp. Just a touch of boost at 40Hz, and a little rolloff on the treble. I also have the tone knob on the bass rolled off just a bit.

)+1 to all of this. That bass does sound great!

I have a Skyline Decade with a mahogany body, and the tone is really punchy through the mids--but not bright. (And the bass isn't heavy at all.) I used to be very wary of mahogany, but now I think it's a really cool tonewood.

Both pickups on full, with D'Addario EXL165 strings. And the frets are vintage-spec, so they are on the smaller side. I prefer those as well.

... to be on the road in Denver at a Marriott surfing the 'net and to happen upon _my_ bass that Dan made for me which is being shipped as we "speak". I ordered it from Dan in January after a confluence of events took place: I happened upon Dan's website from an ad in BassGear.com, followed by trying an early 80's Hamer Cruise Bass for the first time and digging it immensely (it's neck and body are made of mahogany and it sports a Dimarzio P/J pickup configuration with the J pickup in the 70's position), followed by a bass buddy of mine sending me a link to a TalkBass for sale thread of an uber cool early 80's Fender Walnut Precision Special. I decided to have Dan replicate the Walnut Precision Special look with the wood and pickup configuration of the Hamer Cruise Bass. The neck and body are both made by USA Custom Guitars who make top shelf stuff, IMHO so I'm very excited to get that bad boy in my greedy little hands.

As an aside, I've been on the road in Denver since early February when we got word that my brother had a stroke while on a ski lift in Vail. It's been a stressful family crisis and Dan has been sending me pictures of his progress on this P/J bass every step of the way which has been a HUGE morale builder for me while I care for my poor bro. We just got word that my bro is going to be released on 3/20 so I'm taking him home with me to Falls Church, VA to start sub acute rehab. Needless to say, I can't wait to get home to my wife, my life and this super cool bass that Dan has made for me ... gotta buncha gigs lined up to use it on as soon as I get back ... should be interesting as I'm about as rusty as the Titanic right now. Kudos to Dan all the way around.

I've posted this in a few other threads, but it seems appropriate here. Here is the finished piece made from the body Dan did for me. All my other basses are jealous, because this thing never gets put down. It's gorgeous and sounds incredible.
