AudioKinesis Cabs Part VI...

Woo hoo, is this a club? I need a number if so.

Based on my calculations, I'm due to become a brand new Audiokinesis Hathor 1203 owner around the beginning of May; evidently I should have gone ahead and ordered two because business seems to be booming!

Given that I've got a 5-string and a...7-string (!) in the stable, @Guitarodeo is giving me extra comfort in my choice where low-end depth is concerned haha...and at an estimated 25lbs stock, I can do sets of curls before the gig without wearing myself out too much. I'm really excited about this and can't wait for my Quilter to meet this thing.

To clarify, you won’t injure anyone with a single 12, but it will likely surprise you how many gigs you can comfortably play with it alone.

Cabinet was delivered around 10am this morning. I got the notification and hustled on home to get it inside. Box was well intact and took me about 10 mins to unpack. Well done @DukeLeJeune, not a single mark on it!! Beautiful looking cab design and light as a feather. It even had a nice new leather smell from the top handle.

I had enough time to run through a quick sound check and WOW, this cabinet can get loud. I had a side by side going w/ my GK 410 (8-ohm version) but it was just too cramped in my living room, with hardwood floors, to get a good comparison. The H1506 running at 4-ohm is definitely louder, no doubt. Using my Tech 21 BDDI, GK MB Fusion and Geddy Jazz, 4-ohm and all switches up, just grind city with tight, punchy tone. The real test is Friday night at a loud rock n roll gig. My 410 was always loud enough but lacks guts. I'll report back.

I chose the H1506 for several reasons:

1) I wanted a single 15" cabinet design. Versatile, light, modern and powerful.
2) Functionality - 4/8 ohm operation and highly tunable. 4-ohm was the win for me. To be able to walk into any gig with cabinet in one hand is fantastic. I don't need two of these!!! Last cab I'll buy.
3) Reputation - quality builder. Did a ton of research.. Thanks again, Duke.

I'll keep my 410 for awhile, got to find some place to run these two together!! We have several outdoor gigs already lined up for spring but I'm thinking that might just be stupid!

This last weekend, I provided the backline for the earlier acts at a popular, but smallish (just under 200 capacity) local venue. (A Changeling 112T, with the rear mid switch down, and a D-800+, no FOH support.) So after nearly a year of gigging with this cab I finally got the opportunity to actually hear what it sounds like out in the house. And despite all of the great feedback I've received from audience members over that year, I was still kind of stunned by how big, full and articulate it sounded—without even coming close to breaking a sweat. So I'm in total agreement with nostatic that just one of Duke's magic 12" cabs can easily handle most any situation of reasonable scale and volume.
