this has been covered, both in this thread, the boutique 3 way on a budget thread, and on the fearful thread....but:

the avatar has superior components, though they could have been arranged on the baffle board better.

As someone who has tried in vain to get the LS1503 to sound good as a bass cab, remods and all, I can't help but think the Avatar is better in every way. On the other hand, a pair of LS1503's make dynamite home stereo cabs !

DavidLopez; I assume if you ask that question, in this thread, that you probably don't know a lot of folks bought LS1503's, and then reloaded them with the Em 3015LF that's in this cab, replaced the mid driver with something much higher performance, like what's in this cab, and redid crossovers to take the additional power you could then throw at it.

So, for about the same price, you're getting a cab that has had all this done already...ya dig

The Carvin is about 2" taller, and not as wide. Also, when loaded with a 3015LF, only about 47 lbs. Right now, it's selling for $279, so if you load it with a 3015LF, it's about the same price plus you would have the stock woofer to sell or use elsewhere.

I'm seeing it for $180.

I've seen pricing as low as $130, but notice, I did say "about the same price".

I am thinking about ordering one of these in 8 ohms, and pairing it with a B210 NEO to go with my GB Shuttle 9.

I asked the same question quite a few pages back, and Tastee had actually been in contact with Dave:

Heard back from Dave about the grill vs cloth.

"HI Kevin...thanks...for now, we only want to use the black metal grill because the cab moves so much air, we would be concerned about a fabric grill moving too much and making noise. Thanks!"

Seems a bit odd to me, I've seen 15" cabs with cloth grilles.

That thing *moves,* a lot.

This is exactly what Dave @ avatar told when I inquired about other options. He said duratex type finish and other colors may come in the future, but any grille less robust than what they are now offering will move and risk causing some type of unwanted noise. When I subjected my LDS 15/6 with the same woofer to the full power of my old M9 (only did this once, outside, very briefly) it moved an insane volume of air, so this makes sense to me. FWIW my LDS also has a thick metall grille. I'll be doin' a comparison of the 2 cabs with M6 and Walkabout heads next weekend. My assumption and hope is that because the Avatar will be 4 Ohms my Walkabout will be enough for most of my amateur, occasional, small bar and party gigs. It falls a bit short on volume into the 8 Ohm LDS. I have yet to hear a cab make the Walkabout sound bad, so my hopes are pretty high.
