Basses Named After Car

The Gibson Firebird went on sale 4 years before the Pontiac Firebird. So was the car named after the guitar?

GM showed a prototype "Firebird" years before Gibson had the guitar.

The Firebird was very futuristic and designed by Pontiac to compete with the Corvette (BTW, Corvette was named after British WWII ships). GM said that nuttin's was going to compete with the Corvette so the prototype was never moved forward. When Chevy came out with the F-body (i.e., Camaro) Pontiac got the same car and the Firebird name was brought back.

Colors of consumer products are often similar across product types. There really is an internal kabal on color that meets and selects color trends way in advance so dye companies, fabric companies, paint companies, etc can tool up and be ready.
