BC Rich MEGATHREAD

I've been a fan of BC Rich basses for some time, and almost bought one on numerous occasions back in the late 80's and early 90's. Then, I hate to admit it, but I kinda forgot about BC Rich for a while. Well, a friend of mine called me yesterday and told me he is up and moving to Las Vegas, and wanted to dump some bass gear before the move. He's a 6-string player, and hasn't played a 4-string in years. I knew that he had ordered a macked out Warlock back in the 80's, and it turns out he still had it! :hyper: So, as of last night, I am in the club! :D

Now, he was in a bit of a rush, and while he told me a bit about it, I could use some help figuring this baby out. First off, I believe it to be a late 80's USA made Custom Shop Warlock. Can someone confirm this from the photos and serial number? And he said that he got it with basically every option they had. I am not sure if this is true, and if anyone can tell just what options this bass has from the photos, I would appreciate it.

The bass was pretty grungy when he dropped it off, and I only gave it a cursory cleaning, so I apologize for the condition of the bass and the low quality of the photos. But I was kind of excited, and I wanted to get something up here to solicit feedback (good bass or not, how to make best use of the controls, etc.). So, here it is (again, soon to be cleaned up a bit more and restrung for sure!):

And yes, that is a Kahler tremolo bridge. :bassist: Can you say, "whammy!??!" [Not that I'll really use it...]

And it does have the original hardshell case:

So, what do y'all think? Any and all comments/suggestions/tips/tricks welcome. :)

Tom.

Hmmm. I am no expert but i am freinds with alot of people who are. It doesant look like a custom shop to me due to it not having the R logo. Unless the specific request was to have the BC Rich logo instead.

Probably just a normal US one, However they were handmade.

Nice score mind :) love the trem. I wish the bass were in a louder (Greener of Pinker) Colour though :)

Thanks for the feedback! :) It may very well be that he was wrong about the 'Custom Shop' thing.

Tom, welcome to the BCR club! :bassist: That looks to be one sweet Warlock. I wish I could help you but I have only owned import models so far. :(

Anyways, if you really want the scoop on it go over and post at the Link Removed. There are some very serious BCR collectors there with a wealth of knowledge that they are willing to share.

what a gas! bowlus with a warlock! that's great, bro...swing on over the players form...we'd love to have you! i go by my real name over there, dave black...see ya bro...excellent warlock! i'm really hopping to get going on my ignitor project soon...

I just registered and posted, though for some reason, the photos don't seem to have come out quite right. :hmm:

Guess i'll join in on this. Here's my NJ Ironbird:

i've since replaced the pickup with a Quarter Pounder. Sounds great! Although when i took it into the shop, they noticed that the bridge was mounted incorrectly, it's a bit too far to the right. Which makes sense, as the G string is really close to the edge of the fretboard. Oh well. Other than that, i love it.

That is probably my favorite BC Rich, ever. If I had the scratch, you best believe it wouldn't be for sale.

That's what I don't get--you read forums like these and the BC Rich players' forum and you see pretty fast that the Wave guitars and basses are very popular and sought after...so what does BC Rich do? Discontinue them and produce 5 new goofy-looking spikey heavy-metal charicatures. Weird.

So,a possibility arose for me to get back one of my basses I sold 15 years ago,My BCR Eagle was a very firm favorite to be heading out of the door, but as the owner was a 5 string player,he decided to take my Yamaha John Myung instead (I'm REALLY missing it already :( )

The Bass I got back is one of the 2 1979 Bich 8 strings I used to own,it has slight issues with it's electrics, not bassy enough, but Both pre-amps work and the Varitone kinda works,I'm hoping it's just dirt,It worked a bit better once I used servicsol on it,but if needs be it'll eventually get new pick ups and a new Varitone

Anyway, let me re-introduce you to "Barbara" my old 1979 Koa and Flame Maple Bich 8 string bass
