Ok I keep reading where people complain about the weight of big cabs, while some recall fondly their long lost big cabs, so here is a club for those of us who still have big cabs and love them!

Club motto - "Bass is supposed to be fat and heavy"

What cabs qualify for the 'Big Cabs Club' ? One cab that has 5 or more 10", 3 or more 12", 2 or more 15", 1 or more 18". If you have something really unusual but big (like 6 or more 8" or something, Henry cabs are big cabs) that's cool too! 1516's (15" + 2 - 8") qualify - those are big cabs. And if you know the weight, let us know. And you must actually possess the cab right now to get a number, but if you had one in the past we would like to hear about it anyway!

No regular ole 410's or 115's, please. These are great cabs, but not 'Big Cabs' for the club...

However, some single driver folded-horns qualify as big cabs, I've seen single 10" folded cabs that were definitely BIG cabs! So if you have something UNUSUALLY BIG in a 410 or 212 or 115, let us see it, you might get in the club!

With that I believe my Peavey 3620 qualifies as a 'Big Cab', also my Peavey 215D BW is a backup...

Now, RESPECT the 3620!! 53" H x 27" W x 17" D, 148 lbs

I'd love to counted among the "big cab" numbers! As you can see, I was a "big cab" guy back in the late '70s, with my special-ordered Sunn Coliseum head and (2) Sunn 118RH reflex horn cabs. It was a monster stack!!! Sorry for the pic quality - we didn't have digital back then!

I can't ask for a number since I'm in the complete opposite camp (just a pair of lightweight 1x12's) but I would LOVE to play through any of these rigs for a few minutes just to hear what they sound like.

This thread was a helluva fun read! :bassist:

wow  That is a sweet rig! You got rid of it??? Do you have any big cabs right now? I can only make you a member if you have stuck it out and kept a big cab... But you definitely get a mention with that rig!

Unfortunately, I'm currently a "little combo" guy, using a Warwick CCL 2x10 as I'm only dinking around at home (but hopefully going to be back on a worship team soon).

This Sunn rig was my first and biggest attempt at "big sound". Back in the late '70s many of us thought we should generate most of our sound from the stage and leave the PA for the vocals and drums. We were wrong, but that's what we thought... Anyway, you can imagine the $$$ I invested in that, my only rig at the time, and how big and cumbersome it was for smaller gigs - not to mention boomy and overpowering for a lot of gigs. I ended up selling it a couple of years later and replacing it with smaller stuff. :hmm:

I played through an Ampeg B4R / 4x10 / 1x15 stack more recently, but probably will never again be counted as a current member of the Big Cab Club. :crying:

Hey, maybe you'd consider making me an "honorary member", like #H1 or something, just for trying!

I'm glad the pic brought a smile to your face, though. Thanks for your reply!

"With that I now announce the development of an 'Honorary Membership' granted to those whose wherewithal shows them to be in accordance with the pronounced values of ole ye Big Cabs Club, who at one time were in possession of such equipment, even though at said moment they are not in possession of fitting equipment, though they are said to desire to be in such possession, and for that we wish them well, and welcome them to the fold, until which time that they come into possession of fitting equipment, when they shall be granted full membership." :bassist:

That thing is SICK looking! I would be scared to stand too close to it! How does it sound? $100?? Where in the -? :spit:

craigslist can be good sometimes. I have to get 2 of the speakers reconed. There is 2 that aren't working. I might just change all of them to Jensen MOD's. It sounds pretty good considering the 2 speakers that don't work. It's really shallow maybe 12" deep and it's sealed so it doesn't have a tone of low end and the speakers I've read aren't the greatest and most people change them out. The best part about it is a picked it up and carried into my 2nd floor apt. That's a first for any of my 810's. It doesn't weigh that much and is pretty compact. Don't get me wrong it's far from light but it's managable. I'll get some pics up when I get around to swapping out the speakers. Oh yeah Jesse from Death From Above 1979 uses these cabs.
