Am I the only one who thinks it's strange that this guy became a member Monday, started two threads today, made one post in each, and then we never heard from him again?
I'm quite sure... but we'll remember the offensePerhaps he's sitting under his bridge counting 250+ replies from a single post as a rather successful bit of trolling![]()
People don't usually shout out 'intercourse' or 'excrement' when they accidentally drill a hole through the front of their bass.I don't really (want to) understand why certain words are swear words, while others aren't. Intercourse is okay, the alternative word isn't. Excrement is okay, the other word isn't. Why?

Hehe, thanks man! I love y'all so was absolutely not shooting you, it was just the first time I had actually read the rule and I'm fascinated by language. Please note that I am NOT knowingly in violation of Rule #5 as I am not disagreeing with any moderator's actions. I don't have a complaint and while I'm aware that the author of the rule might be a mod, it is not certain. Senators write the laws, cops enforce 'em, right? (My one forum complaint was about a different forum altogether where I advocated successfully for a rule change.)
In general, I really like the tone of TB. Some members might get snarky over silly things like carrots, but overall there is a very civil vibe. I'm sure credit goes to the mods (such as the gentleman that chimed in earlier in the thread) but I like to think also that it reflects well on bass players in general. Sure you have your occasional Sid Vicious or Gene Simmons, but bassists are generally a level-headed bunch compared to many other musicians
I'm a lover of freedom over security, so I wish we could have an unmoderated environment. But then I see the endless vitriol and offhand heinous statements on Yahoo News and YouTube comment sections and realize that maybe we humans aren't ready for that in the virtual world yet.
Or is this wrong?
Ok, good point.Considering it's turned into the hot button du jour for a lot of folks, I can hardly blame the admins for that. They're just trying to run a bass and music community interest site here. Nothing else.
A few evenings ago, I humorously posted a thread about «bass being a religion» to us. I detailed what the salvation and sin be in it, what would be considered scriptures, etc.I think they're about even.

One of the things I love about TalkBass is that every time I try swearing, it gets auto censored.
For instances: @#$@&*
Yeah, I guess surprised / not surprised. Maybe 25 pages worth in us collectively? You've been here long enough to know it's the TB way. I'm surprised it's only 11 pages.
I think of threads like these more as meet & greets where we all get to know each other better.
Can't just talk about bass 24x7x365 can we? There's a lot more to this crew than just that. (I hope.) Some of the coolest people I've met here are some of the people I've disagreed with most.

Not in a million years. Disney is so tight fisted on their product that they have gone after impoverished schools in Africa for Micky Mouse murals on their walls.
You will find this to be one of the "cleaner" forums. Stay away from politics and religion. Don't use the "high ranking" bad language.
I think it was a 3 year old nephew of a friend on mine that came up with "You're a stupid looking stupid head!" one of my all-time favsWhen my son was 3-4, when he was really mad, he would make up the most imaginable curses. Not cursing as in swearing. But like old style curses. "I hope your hands get so heavy they break and fall off so you can never pick me up again!!!" It's really amazing that a 3yo could curse more creatively than your average 20-something.

It got 1 enthusiastic reply... Then it was gone without warning.
I completely respect the admins' decision, so please especially don't think that I'm complaining here.
I myself have to arbitrate disputes as a professional duty. And I understand how human a job it is.
I guess it was maybe just a bit more of a shock to me, coming from the post-Christian society in which I live.
I sometimes forget to take into consideration differing viewpoints, which I do not ever wish to belittle.
So for other newcomers or very occasional contributors to TB like me:
Please know that the trigger on religion here is very, very low.

I don't know.I think more poopie storms are started by politics. Seems more polarizing and fundamentally divisive.
