We came, we saw, we friggin kicked ass! Unbelievable crowd response to our new singer. She had the whole crowd in the palm of her hand! We got tons of compliments after the show. What a blast!

We came, we saw, we friggin kicked ass! Unbelievable crowd response to our new singer. She had the whole crowd in the palm of her hand! We got tons of compliments after the show. What a blast!
On Thursday evening (April 10), my band (Razorblade Monalisa) will be opening a three-band gig at the Retox Lounge in San Francisco (also on the bill are the Tell-Tale Heartbreakers and Midnight Radio). I think we might be going on as early as 9 p.m. I've heard that the actual performance room at the venue is small. No idea what the sound is like in there....
Anyway, this is the first time we've played in S.F. since before I and our drummer joined. And it's my first big coastal city gig in a decade (I've played gigs in NYC with a few bands in the 1990's). I'm very much looking forward to it but I really have no idea what kind of turnout there's gonna be. I'd love to meet some TBers there, if any of you are into the whole post-punk sort of thing and are in the Bay area... And also a decent turn-out for us will make it likely that we'll be granted additional S.F. gigs.
It'll be my third show with my Burns Barracuda (short-scale 6-string) and my first one where I think I've finally got my settings dialed in right for this particular bass. I'm a bit nervous because I am dealing with a bad wisdom tooth right now that isn't scheduled for removal until the 25th and I don't know what kind of shape I'll be in on Thursday night.

Wow, Vacaville!! I hear it's changed a lot in the past few years. We used to have our huge school parties there when I was at UCD in the late eighties. It was a sleepy cow town then!!
Just had my first gig as a 3 piece--other 2 guys(keys and drums) have played off and on for over 30 years.We have practices twice and played at an 80th b-day party.first set was background music-played really really softly and gradually got louder.lots of songs I have never even heard before but winged it decent.The first hour was kind of intimidating though--I swear could hear crickets after every song.As people had a few pops(open bar) they got more and more into it and it got better.
i've played Retox before... it's a fun venue, your fans will dig the airplane motif [the downstairs portion of the venue, where the live music happens, has what i believe was once a movie prop, it's basically the center part of a 747 i think, pretty cool seating...]
make sure you bring some people out there with you; Retox is located in the Dogpatch, which is an up and coming district but still pretty under-developed, so crowds there are hit/miss.. i've played to a dead room there but also a couple well-attended shows as well.

Ah cool, thanks for the heads up! Yeah, I am expecting at leasst a dozen of my friends to be there, not sure how many friends of other band members and general fans of the band will show... The airliner motif should be fun, I'm just wondering if there are any stage-space or gear-hauling concerns I should be aware of... How much room will we have for our gear, and will load-in and -out be cumbersome? I guess we'll find out tomorrow night......

Haven't practiced with the Cover Band in about 2 weeks. Should be a bad gig, or at least bad first set.
Band is kind of boring to me, as it IS a cover band and we play THE SAME songs.
It will be interesting to see their song selection, as we haven't really practiced anything new, and they seem to open up with THE SAME SONG at EVERY show.
No wonder we get booked at like 1 bar and never play it again

Computer has been down for a few days (..dude, don't get a Dell) so I have a backlog of gigs Last week Friday, a Synagogue service w/ a small ryhthm section. Read the charts and it was pretty cool. Saturday afternoon a vocal job ( I sing the bass parts)

We're playing our first show back in our home town since getting our new singer. It's literally been SIX months since we've played Augusta. We've been getting an incredible buzz lately, so we're hoping to really fill the place up. It probably won't happen, but it'd be nice to reach the 150-person max capacity. Our shows with our old singer usually averaged around 80 people paying admission....which for an original metal band, ain't half bad. I'll let you guys know how it turned out!

My first live gig yesterday! I was totally hyped. We were told we were the tightest and made the most show even by the other bands. Hell I loved standing on the scene.
Between our songs (4 selfwritten, one cover which was Raining Blood by Slayer), we had little events like a short improvised funk jam, guitarist playing Karius and Baktus (metal version), and I myself playing Super mario theme, so we had it going at all times without stopping. I look forward to out next performance. Backstage owns too. Free food, drink and everyting, brung to us. Awesome!

As far as our gig last night...turns out there was a huge show a couple blocks away from us (which was booked well after I had booked our show). PLUS, there were a couple proms going on...so the usual high school crowd was pretty thin. We still managed a decent crowd overall, and we had some serious mosh pits breaking out. Good times.

This weekend is my last weekend off until sometime late in June. 3 at the casino next week, an unusual gig the way it's set up.........I played the same gig with my steel drum band a few weeks ago.
Just got back from my first for the weekend. The directions said "Rockefeller Estate". Turns out to be David Rockefellers wedding. Nice pad. Too bad Phillip Glass fell into the indoor pool
Got a call for a last minute gig this weekend, my 1st paying gig with my new band. We're playing a small bar in Redwood City, CA. 3 hour gig. We should be ready, but we still have a few rough patches.
My country band played at a benefit for Hepatitis C research last night, at the local Eagles lodge here in Frederick. The good news: it's just 3.5 miles from my house, and the drinks were cheap. Most of all, it was our first gig in 5 weeks! So it was great to see my buddies and play again. (Since I got back from Jazzfest in New Orleans, I've been dying to play. We'll be busier from now on.)
The bad news: it wasn't very well attended. But much worse than that, our female singer told me that she wants to get pregnant. No, not by me, that would be good news. She wants artificial insemination. She's 41, and her biological clock is ticking at stun volume by now. If she does this, most likely she'll need to leave the band. Sure, we could get another singer, but it'd be tough to find someone as talented and easygoing as she is. But beyond that, I doubt she knows how hard it is to be a single parent. I'm worried for her.
