Played a short 1 hour gig at a small brewpub in San Carlos, CA, near San Francisco tonight. This is with my 2nd band "UNDO", and it went pretty well. We've been playing together about 3 months, and it is starting to come together.

The drummer and singer know a lot of people, and the place was jammed packed with their friends. It was a lively crowd, and we got a great response. Looking forward to more gigs, but we need to learn a 2nd set:hmm:

I've just got home from a gig with one of my main bands, been playing together 8 years. But recently this has almost died and we've not really had a lot to do or much incentive to do it.

But tonight, the old magic came back and we ROCKED the house like the old days. The audience was one of the most enthusiastic crowds we've ever had and that just got us flying along. It felt really good to play like that with these guys I feel so close to and it's sort of rekindled our enthusiasm for what we do. Nice.

Well, a different kind of gig for me last night......one that I haven't had in years......a cancelled one.

Winter weather came through yesterday afternoon, everything was covered in ice. Dozens of wrecks everywhere in the area, one spot on I-70 closed down while they lifeflighted crash victims, just a general mess.

This particular club is usually completely full when we arrive 2 hours before showtime........last night....just 6 or 8 people at the bar, and most of them getting ready to head for the house. We get a lot of gigs here, not a bad room, easy to do, so we talked to the management and "let them off the hook". Hated to give up a gig, but it was the diplomatic (and safe) thing to do. Got back home and had the car unloaded in time to see my WVU Mountaineers win their final regular season game. PS.....congrats and thank you to Pat White for all he's done for the Mountaineers! He's a class act.

Sorry, folks, didn't see this until Sunday nite. My band plays every weekend, and it's always very cool. What made this weekend a little different was we normally don't play with other bands(we play a mix of originals & covers and we have a full nites worth of music.), but this past weekend, we had the chance to play with a band called Forever Ouvre, which is made up of guys from Fuel & Breaking Benjamin! It was a great weekend! Forever Ouvre is an awesome band, and we got to jam with Chad Sczeliga(drummer-Breaking Benjamin) & Toryn Green(Lead singer-Fuel/Touring Lead Singer-Apocalyptica)& Ronnie Paige(Touring Lead Guitarist-Fuel/Rev Theory)! All very cool guys!

I played my first paid gig in 29 years Saturday night! I am so lucky to have hooked up with the quality of players I am playing with right out of the block. We have yet to rehearse! I got the job by showing up at a gig a few weeks ago and playing 8 or 9 songs that I had learned off of the singer/songwriter's CDs.

I played just enough bass over the years, maybe a half hour a week, that I never lost my muscle memory. After a few months of intense practice at home and I was ready to go again. I am now better than I ever was. I attribute that mainly to maturity.

I often wondered if I would or even could get back into it again, but, here I am. I can't believe my luck! :hyper:

It went well, we got a lot of compliments and they want us back. The bands play right in the front window, but you can't park on the street and load in through the front door. We had to load in through the back and all the way through the room. Why do they never put the stage in the back of the room at this kind of place? :rolleyes: Next time I will get there earlier.

Next Friday, my new country-rock band in fabulous Culpeper VA! We DO load in through the front door!

Thursday night, I'll be playing the Christmas party for A.I.G.. Thank Heavens for that bailout money, its tricklin' down to me! Also have a clubdate Saturday and thats it for 2008. Can't even find New Years eve this year. I'm open if you hear of anything

Played Saturday night with the guys I've been working with on and off for a couple of years now. It was horrible!:rollno: They all drank too much,...drummer couldn't find the pocket in a pair of overalls,...guitarist was incredibly loud, which of course caused the other guitarist/keyboadist to turn up as well,....a complete mess... the one saving grace was, I had brought my Lakland fretless out to the job. Haven't played her in a while,... I was stunned at how thick, fat and clear she sounded! Started the night playing her and wound up using her almost the entire night. She even sounded great on disco'ish slap tunes,....I'll probably be leaving this band after the first of the year,...but my 55-02 fretless is going to stay with me for a loooooooooonnnngggggggggggg time!:bassist:

We did a small club gig on Friday night, and despite plenty of last minute snow and ice, we got a bit of a crowd.

Then, as I was walking in my front door at 1 AM, I got the call from my wife at the hospital, my father in law just passed away. We knew it was coming soon, just not exactly when. :crying:

We're leaving tomorrow morning early, playing a string of dates in Colorado. Come out and say hi if you get a chance, I'll buy you a beer!

Wednesday and Thursday, we're at the Tug Boat in Steamboat Springs, we start at 10 pm. Friday we play the Big Hoss Grill in Snowmass Village, the mall right on the ski hill, music starts at 3:30 so we can catch the skiers. Saturday night we're at Boomers in Grand Junction, downbeat at 9. Finally, on Sunday we play at Lincolns Roadhouse in Denver at 3:30.

This will be the first extended time outside of town since my accident, and I've been cleared by my doctor. I am feeling up to it, but anyone who has done this kind of thing knows how exhausting it can be.

Wish me luck, looks like snow in the forecast for much of the trip.

Tonight and tomorrow are my last "official" gig with the country band I've been with for the past 8 years. It's at Addy's in Manassas, if any locals are interested.
However, the bandleader called me this week and wants me to sub with them next year. I told him he needs to get a full-time player, but he wants to use me and one other guy in rotation. The other guy doesn't sing, and doesn't want the job full-time, he no longer likes bars. I'm in 2 other bands and I know there will be conflicts. But I need all the work I can get... Yeesh. This is why a definite end is sometimes the way to go.

The jazz big-band I play in had our last show of the year, great turnout. Had two solos in the set, they turned out quite well. Half of the set used an electric, the other an upright. Due to a string breakage I had to do the entire set on the upright (both solos were on the electric) but it went great all the same. I had a back up bass but the case was locked in the pre-show scuttle:rollno:.

Dive bar weekend for me and Forever Vinyl - Slam Dunk in Whittier last night... tonight we're at Harold's in San Pedro... we're doing this weekend as a "no repeat" weekend - different songs each night... ok. well... we did Interstate Love Song twice last night, but the second time was for a 50 dollar tip... after years of doing this I still don't understand why anyone would tip 10-20-50-100??? bucks to hear whatever song is in their head - I'm glad they do it, but don't get it!
