"Check In" here before and after your gigs this weekend!

Forgot that I was supposed to do a gig on Sunday. Didn't really want to work the night before I was going back to teach but a gig is a gig. Then on Saturday morning the leader calls and said the club needed to deal with some violations and we were cancelled for that Sunday. I tried to act sad.
This week: Clubdate somewhere on Saturday, the aforementioned big band Gig Sunday night

Did a gig w/ my 2nd band "UNDO" at a Mexican restaurant in San Carlos, a little suburb south of San Francisco. The singer and drummer know a lot of people, and the place was jammed packed. The guys I play with are all about 30, and the crowd was a very lively, drinking young bunch. I'm in my very late 40's, married and kids, so it has been a while since I've been in that scene.

It was a great gig. We played for two hours, got the chicks dancing like mad, and everyone hollering for more after we were done and the owner said time to close it down.

1st gig with Judas Priest tribute, SinneR, is this saturday night @ Copperfield's in Boston. We'll be appearing with Runaway High, a Motley Crue tribute act. I know my material, I have my leathers, got a wig (because I'm shaved bald), basses are ready, rig is ready. This is our debut/reunion gig after a 5 yr. layoff for the band, I'm the only new guy and everybody else is from the original lineup. I'm a bit nervous, yet psyc'd at the same time. Any TB'rs in the area, come check us out.

Played last night, discovered I had blown a speaker in my aggie GS410,..terrible sound of the coil scraping all evening,....drummer was drunk,...no groove at all, guitarist was entirely too loud as usual, and it was day 5 of my non-smoking attempt. What an evening! I had told myself that I wasn't going to play with these guys anymore after NYE, but the economy being what it is, felt I couldn't pass up the cash. I love playing live, but if I don't find another group that's more along the lines of my taste in music,...just may have to give it up for a while. My apologies for a completely non-motivational rant.

Got back from my gig at Slim's in San Francisco. Played a short set of Thin Lizzy covers (Massacre, Angel from the Coast (me on vox), Emerald, and Warrior. Rifftastic. Great stage and crowd. Flubs aplenty, but nothing too bad, especially for one practice as a band. Nighty night. :cool:

I feel for you. I know that gigs like that can make you feel like you're done with it all together. I'd like to say, "Hang in there - it'll get better" - but if the group you're with is not playing stuff you're into, that's a hard thing to say and mean it.

"And if the band you're in (won't start) playing different tunes

The Band sounded great, we were tight and on the money all set. The crowd response was nice, I had a bit of doubt on how popular a Priest tribute could be, I guess I was wrong. We wound up driving home sunday morning in a snowstorm, but I still made it home in time to see both football games :hyper: Boston is a pretty town, I had never been there before. This was the 1st time I had hooked up both Schroeder cabs (310212 & 1212) to my SVT. The rig just crushes, I'm so happy with it. :D We'll be back in the area on 2/27 & 2/28. I'm really looking forward to it. I didn't even mind the leathers and fake hair. Funny thing is, I HAD hair that long at one time, WT$ was I thinking ? :)

Update: The venue in Snowmass booked Saturday as well, paid us an extra 2 bills to keep playing on Friday and another 4 to keep going on Saturday! Another venue owner down the mall booked us for a weekend in Feb and the first place will have us back another couple of times. Thursday went well also, the director of the Colorado Blues Society was there, and liked the band, so we're getting some bookings there too. Not a bad weekend, although I got sick, too much travel, poor sleep, late nights, etc...

The down side is that we had a few cancellations, mostly due to the economy. This Fridays gig at Ned's on the Rio Grande was cancelled, but I'm not bothered too much, the owner is a low life, I told the band not to book there anymore anyway. Our casino weekend gig at the end of the month was cancelled too, that's more of a concern, but they had to cut back on their budget, so the live music was one of the first things to go.

This week, Saturday at the Martini Tree at Taos Ski Valley, 3:30.

Dinner Dance Saturday: The Big Band was extended through March so unless I have a gig ( they're all better paying than dividing the door by 16) thats where I'll be. Last weekend at the Rainbow Room, the host tipped everyone in the band $100. Made the load in more tolerable. Last Sunday night I went to move my car closer on a break and when I went outside, I slipped on ice and went down. Back hurts and my arm still hurts.

Heading a bit south of town to a cozy little place on the bayou of gun lake. I have a feeling it's going to snow like hell tonight and tomorrow, based on past experience it always snows like hell when we drive down there in the winter. (Sorry Mike, I take full responsibility for your drive this weekend!)

The food is good, the staff is friendly, and the crowd is quite eclectic. There are people that own million dollar lake houses mingling with the folks from the many trailer parks in the area. This is going to be a long weekend, but I expect it'll be a good one too!
