really? ime, the guys that were around in the alder/rosewood era were the guys complaining how cbs ruined fender with their boat anchor ash and shoddy quality control. never heard any happy switch overs.

Not really worth having a discussion about. No right or wrong... no rules.
Interestingly, my LG is the first bass in 30+ years of playing that I've used nickel rounds on. I never felt the need, but that bass just didn't sound 'right' to me with the various steels I tried on it.... made it sound like it was trying to be my LM and failing. The Lo Rider Nickels just speak to me personally with that particular bass.
