Club Alleva Coppolo (Part 10!)

Yup. That one had a skunk stripe (though it appears that it has a mis-routed portion of the neck that had to be filled in). That was one of the best playing basses in the booth, and if I were to have picked up one of Jimmy's basses, it would have been this one or else the one he made for Bobby Vega (modeled after a '61 stacked knob Jazz, I believe).

I was told that was a prototype build, which I assume is the reason it didn't sell at the show. Maybe someone can get a deal!

That sounds about right, since the blocks and binding really kick up the price. I believe that bass, without blocks and binding would be around $3,400.. maybe a touch more in 2010... not sure what the price increase is on the base LM's and LG's.

I still want it, but that's a lot of cash, especially if it isn't a 'final production' model that is perfect, etc. These basses are much like the FBass pricing..... quite reasonable for the base models, and then quickly getting ugly with upgrades (Nitro, blocks and binding, matchng headstock, custom colors, etc., etc.).

Yep. It was kinda' cool. I could say all kindsa' nasty things to her and she just stood there and smiled. Fun! ;) :D

the pricing model is cool.......the price without a certain level of perfection.......i dont know, kind of fodera'ish:hiding: if the people pay it though, more power to him.

I agree. The six or seven that I've played and the one's I own are as perfect as can be. I would not pay full price for a prototype though, so +1 all the way there (I assume that's why I think this was the only bass in the booth that didn't sell at the show, if I read an above post correctly). I assume when he settles on the final spec of the LM's, he will be back in production mode.

It was a fantastic playing and sounding bass, but at these prices, I'd really be looking for cosmetic perfection as well, and it didn't have it.

Thing is, with the new body spec, my GAS for an LM is really waning. The body was already big enough for my tastes, and even without the question of whether it got heavier or not, I gotta' be straight up and say I'm not into the bigger body. If I ever got into an LM (or even an RA at some point), it'd have to be the older spec. I kinda' like the new headstock tho.
