Hey everyone!

Been a while sense I posted on this forum although I read it daily!

I just picked up this beast from David Hughes (Swedbass).

Its a 1996 F Bass BN6 with Flame maple fingerboard..the old school split coil pickups under soapbar covers and it has a Nordy pre-amp installed.

I also have the original Buffer pre amp the bass was originally installed with.

This bass is Amazing on sooo many levels. Plays like butter and sounds spectacular!

The Split coils do give the bass a little different vibe, more in the way of the Alain Caron bass. The Nordy pre really does sound great very transparent and clean like the Fbass Pre.

The controls are:

Volume/Volume/Tone
Bass/Mid/Treble
Active Passive switch
Mid Freq selector switch

I've played 5 gigs so far with her and it has flat out killed!

The bass has tons of Mojo.

I special shout out to David Hughes, not only is he a fantastic player, but a fantastic guy to work with. Hopefully some of Davids talent is engrained into the bass!

Here are a couple video's of David playing it. The 1st is with the Buffer Preamp and the 2nd is with the Nordy:

Yesterday, it was delivered to me by George himself, he was coming to Montreal on a personal trip and was kind enough to bring Thor with him. Below, the creation, the creator, and the short/humble recipient of all this magic.

Thor5c.jpg

After playing a bit I thought I would swap the strings and try something different, it has DR Black Beauties on it at this moment, and it sounds absolutely great. My BNF6 will forever have fBass strings, but I guess this guy sounds very organic with this setup. I will see.

So... another chapter in the incredible story of the Amazing Thor. I will gig the heck out of it, so soon will be posting some videos with Thor singing its guts out.

Cheers,
Glad to see him again, and am VERY much looking ofrward to the videos of Thor "singing its guts out." Congratulations!

Well I finally own one of George's masterpieces and I now understand first hand what all the fuss is about with these basses.

This is a 1987 BNF5, neck-through, passive, 34" scale that I just received today after having George refurb it in his shop for the last four months.

It's total fretless awesomeness.................WOW

May I have a number please?

I'm sorry again for the delay on the number; I just haven't been up to it.

What a nice bass. I can just hear that aged wood's mwah as I look at it. Beautiful.

Took delivery of my new AC5 a week ago (sold my BNF5 in the process). Damn near swallowed my tongue when I first saw it. Then did so again when I started to play.

Anyway, my original intention was to put TI Jazz Flats on it, as some of you here have done. I'm not so convinced I still want to do that, but have a question in case I go ahead. Adjusting saddle height on these babies is not the simplest of chores. For those who strung up non-exposed core strings (TIJFs / DDTs), were you able to get away with not adjusting the saddle height?
WOW!

BN5

I am in love with that finish. If I ever get a BNF6, that's going to be what I ask for.

I wouldn't go TIJFs on that bass either. Because I have multiple fretless basses, I have Jazz Flats on one, but rounds on another.

BTW, I'm wary of DDTs now. I put them on one of my AC6s for just a short time then decided to pull them off for no reason I could tell you -- and to my shock I found they wore my fingerboard a bit. The Jazz Flats didn't (of course), but Fbass strings didn't either for 2 years, so I'm back to Fbass strings on that fretless bass again.

Anyway, I've updated the roster with your new catch. Congratulations.

I love coming to this Club to see all the eye candy, and hope to some day have my own Fbass...

I gotta say, for such amazing basses, the thread names are rather dull and boring, not in keeping with the basses. Club Fbass (thread 10) (thread 11) (thread 12). :hmm:

Throw in some hyperbole, or something witty, humorous ... anything to make the title pop as much as the Fbass finishes. Get creative.
Here's some suggestions for the next iteration:

"Club Fbass Unlucky 13, Thank Your Lucky Stars You Have an Fbass" or
"Club Fbass, The Baker's Dozen (Thread 13)" or
"Club Fbass, a Standard Torus Cut 3 ways";
"Club Fbass, Thread 13, A Full Chromatic Octave";
"Club Fbass XIII, Card of Death";
"Club Fbass XIII, Triskaidekaphobia? What Triskaidekaphobia?
"Is it the sixth prime number? The smallest Emirp? The third ordered Bell number? One of the Three Wilson Primes? Perhaps a cheesy prepubescent musical? NO! It's Club Fbass Prime Time, Part 13!

$0.02 devalued by extreme inflation from a non-owner, non-member – so take it for what it isn't worth. :D
Interesting suggestion; I'll give it some thought. Thanks. And keep hanging out and contributing!

This thread is like mexican food: It's giving me severe GAS.

I've seen all kinds of basses boutique and production, and my current obsession lies between a USA Spector or one of these.

Oh man, that brownburst 6 string is just freaking phenomenal.

Laughing! Well, if you've got GAS, here's something that's, well, NOT going to help!

And just check out the tone of Fbass BN6s... who could resist this?

Here is a link to version of Teen Town that I recently recorded and produced. I can say that I have never got a tone that sounded like the one inside of my head until I started playing Fbass. Thank you to George, Marcel and everybody at the shop for creating my favorite instruments on the planet!!! The melody and solo's are my BN6 direct with reverb added later. The sub bass tone is a using a few MXR pedals (thanks Darryl). Anyways, I figured that this might be appreciated here. I hope that you enjoy!!!!

Hey old friends ...Oh My ....a funny thing happened while I was at Bass San Diego today! I was there to check out Bergantino CN212 cabs and the new GK MB Fusion 800. Had a wonderful time with my Nordy VJ5C checking out the cab and comparing amps. Then an F Bass BN5 with Maccassar Ebony FB caught my eye. Plugged it in.

OH My GOD!! got the attention of my talkbass friend Capt Wally who was there lending a second set of ears. We both felt the tone of the F Bass KILLED everything. I played and executed better on this bass. It had a ramp between PU's and that was my first time playing with a Ramp. LOVED it! ..

Soooo... I put $$ on it! They didn't have an Ash/Maple BN5 to compare, but this bass had punch, growl, KILLER/amazing slap tone, Burpy Jaco growl from the Bridge PU and it played like a dream! Should I hold out for Ash/Maple or finish and follow through in bringing this bass home?
