Club Sadowsky!!!

It was smart of Sadowsky to put that clip on their site, wasn't it?

Juraj Griglak's bass in that clip has an ash body and a maple fretboard, two J style pickups and is a 4 string.

That really is a LOT different than the bass you just bought.

Your bass has an alder body which is sonically richer in the mids, and a rosewood finger board which gives it a mushier attack when slapping, but a sweeter tone in finger style.

Plus, the extra wood of the heel of your neck adds a slight amount of compression. It's debateable whether or not the compression is even audible between 4 and 5 string basses, but it can definitely be heard between 4 and 6 string basses of the same woods.

That's not to say your bass won't sound anything like Jaraj's though.

Here is a youtube clip of a bass made from the same woods as yours.

It is separate and distinct from Jaraj's but clearly Sadowsky as well.

Your bass will vary from this clip as well because of the PJ pickups, but I highly doubt you'll be disappointed.

In fact, if you are PM me and I'll probably be able to help you with your buyer's remorse. :D

aaahhhhh....I see you already bought it! I did not know. You paid $2677? That is right in range with what I said. It seems like a nice bass. I am not sure about the mismatched PUPS still. Does it have 1 Nordy and 1 Sadowsky? That would be strange IMO. I would think it has to be one or the other. I use Sadowsky Blue Label Nickels on my Sadowskys and prefer them over anything else I have tried. Welcome to the club and play her in good health!

Wow. IMHO you got a great deal on that bass! The thing is essentially new except for some microscopic scratch, and he's not lying when he says he paid over 4K for that bass, so you scored, dude, and that should be a really great bass.

As I understand it, this is standard for the FIVE string P's or PJ's.

I think the Nordy is the only 5 string P pickup he has, but of course he has his usual HC or SC for the bridge position.

Bottom line, it doesn't appear to be atypical at all... just a great PJ5.

Hah! I thought he used Fralins for his stock P pickups! I dont' pay much attention to P pickups, but I remember Roger posting about his pickup sourcing a while back (maybe in an earlier Sadowsky thread, and I 'remember' him mentioning Fralin as his P supplier. Of course, I remember that all the good looking girls liked me in college too:hmm::p:D

I've had an MV5, RV5, and a Modern 24, and for me the PJ5 is KING of the Sadowsky line. It sounds thicker than the J-models across the fretboard, and the J pickup in the bridge balances out the massive thump of the P pickup. The slapped tone of the Brazilian Rosewood is punchy but without the 'gank' in the upper mids I hear in the Pau Ferro found on Metro models, and the fingerstyle tone is just PERFECT in the mix and for my style.

I've got D'Addario Halfrounds on her right now, and I can alternate between Modern-Jamerson thump and Modern Zing just with the treble knob. I can notice a difference between this Nordstrand-equipped PJ5 versus the Sadowsky-pup PJ5 a friend had for a while. The tone is more open and responsive to technique to my ears.

Ok...I've had the MV5 for about a week now and I am really starting to love it. AT first it was nothing special albeit I know it is a great bass from a great company. BUt more and more it is really sinking in and I'm finding the sweet spot. The spacing has hampered my groove a lil but I know in time that will work out.

I got the Blue SS in a couple of days ago and put em on. Wasnt overly impressed, I have read where some say they are "tacky" feeling, never had that with a SS string before but they were tacky. Few days later they really started to settle in and feel good.

Alas I am a string junky in search of that elusive perfect string so I changed out the BSS for some nickel Curt Manguns. The local store carries them and I do like them so I figured what the heck.

WOW....this thing loves nickels. The tone is everybit of what I would expect out of this bass. The tension is lower, obviously they are smoother, but they allow the bass to breathe. I would suggest to anybody that is on the string search with a Sad get a set of Manguns you wont be sorry. For the first time ever I will stop looking for strings.
