I went to GC a few months ago and they had an old Warwick Jazzman on the wall. They had that on the wall for over a year. It was nicked up and the fretboard had all kinds of gunk on it. I plugged it in but it didn't work. the strings were fried on it and the preamp was too. It was going for $3000 but the guy said I could have it as-is for $500. I thought about getting it and fixing it, then trying to turn it around for some money but I passed on it. It may still be there and he may give you the same deal.

Whoa!? What GC? I would send it off to be fixed, for sure! Please, tell me more either here, or PM Capn! Please!

Well remember, Im not in Columbus! ;)

Two favors..
1. Was it a 5er?
2. Can you call/check out and see if its still there for me? If so, I may wire you the money, have you buy it, then give it to me at the GTG.

1. Yes
2. I can but I would have to do it this weekend sometime, depending when I'm supposed to be in the studio (probably Saturday for 6 hours.) Some day this weekend though. I'll see if they still have it.

1. Score!
2. Thats awesome! Thanks Capn! I wont have the money for a while, but Im definitely down! See what you can do.

How much would a full overhaul of the electronics cost? I would be down, as long as its not more than a grand total, bass and all.

Or hey, I could even let you guys massacre it at the GTG! :bassist:

Depending on which preamp you want, you could probably get a new one installed for $200-$300. Get Phil Maneri down at the Fifth Ave. Fret Shop to do it. He's the man!!! He's Uncle Toad here on TB.

So, since my brain fluid is usually so clouded with whiskey that I forget damn near everything, I somehow spaced that I am moving that week and can't make this. On top of that, I just somehow managed to come across the Int'l GTG in NYC and am kicking myself for spending all of my time in the effects forum. Either way, as soon as we get a midwest GTG going, or anything close to me again, I will be there with a truck full of amps, basses, and pedals.

Why I oughtta!

And Capn, Ill be sure to check that out. Ill see what I can do. Have you heard of Pittsburgh Guitars? Thats a heck of a lot closer, and Im good friends with the guys, though Im not sure theyre on par with Uncle Toad.

If I could get a good Warwick for around 800 bones, that would leave some cash for another cab..

Oh wait, this a NEW Warwick we're talking about, isn't it?

Well, they do have a used Double Buck Corvette for $1000...

Nope, I refuse to go with a Corvette. Its like the Jazz bass of Warwick. Its complicated, but I want to be different.

And its down to either a used Thumb, or if all goes well with this Streamer that Capn is talking about. Two options thus far.

Wow, a Warwick is a bass that I'd never buy before trying it out. Those necks are about as far from a Geddy neck as you can get. I played a 5 string Thumb a few weeks ago and it really had a thick neck. I made that mistake a few years ago when I picked up a Corvette Standard. It was like trying to play a 12 lb. 2x4.

+1

I tried one out to see what all the hype was about and although it sounded alright, the feel and playability was awful. To each their own.

Jordy, I would definitely try a Wick before buying, especially going from a Geddy. If you decide you like it, you will probably need to "woodshed" on it for a few hours before a gig just because it is so different from what you play now. Just my 2 cents.
