Creepiest Album Covers

My vote goes to an album cover actually showing a photo of a person dying.......I actually was in the store with this CD waiting for the checkout and found the cover so disturbing I put it back on the shelf.

Well, if you knew what the band was all about, you shouldn’t have been surprised. They used a powerful image, one that had been in wide circulation for three decades(at that time)to make a statement. The Buddhist monk in the pic was making a statement. He sacrificed himself in protest over the repression of the Diem regime in Vietnam in the early 60’s. While, yes, there might have been shock value in choosing that photo, I never saw it as cheap or tawdry. I was never a big fan of the band, but I understood the point they were trying to make.

I may not have given that enough context.....this was in 1992 or so when the album was relatively new...it wasn’t on the radio much so I along with a lot of other people didn’t know what rage was all about. I was also only 18 or so, the image had been widely circulated largely before I was born so I had never seen it before and didn’t know the story.

I don’t think any of the other album covers holds a candle to a person committing suicide in possibly the slowest most painful way imaginable while maintaining perfect silence. I sort of feel bad for anyone who that doesn’t unsettle, it makes me worry about their basic humanity.
