I played outdoors for "Watch Night" here in Falls Church, VA on New Year's Eve. The good news was that they had a nice concert stage and sound system for the bands. The bad news was that it was 17 degrees with a "cool breeze" coming down from the North. They had three space heaters on stage that weren't nearly up to the task at hand so it was cold, cold, cold. We all dressed warmly so we weren't shivering cold, but I wouldn't say we were comfortable, either. The primary obstacles were our cold hands and instruments. Luckily, we only had to do a 45 minute set and the band sounded surprisingly good given the poor playing conditions. The sound was really good, too. I guess the cold, dry air really makes for good acoustics.

Whereas I've never even come close to playing outdoors in such cold weather, I did tour extensively with a busy, full time country rock band that based out of LaCrosse and later Madison, Wisconsin for 5 1/2 years back in the late 70's/early 80's. We toured a 15 state area of the upper midwest and played a whole lotta gigs in some super cold places during Winter. Most of the Northern most venues provided a parking spot for our bus with access to electricity to plug in the engine block warmer so that we could get it started when it became time to hit the road to the next gig. I still find the hardiness of the music fans in the upper midwest amazing. It could be below zero and blizzard conditions on a Monday night and the joint would be packed.

According to the weather maps, it was colder in Rhode Island than in Alaska this past week, and that's farther north than T'rannah, eh?

Could be worse: Here in Québec we've had temperatures steadily neighbouring -30 C (or -22 F if you prefer) for the last couple of weeks. Even for here, that's unusual. Not looking forward to see my power bill.

Fell in love with your city on my first trip there back in the early '80's. Actually picked up on the accent by listening to Johnny Bucyk on Boston Bruins radio broadcasts. As far as ice fishing goes, I was disappointed with it. My first time out I caught a 200 pound chunk, but it melted on the way home in the car. <rimshot>

A couple years ago, I was in upstate NY and met a couple from RI and we had a long talk about music and various other topics... They guessed I was Canadian based on my saying that word "about." Apparently it sounds more like "A Boat." East Coast Canadians tell me I sound like I'm American. lol

You have heating?! My first year in MTL (Ville-Marie), we had no heat at all. We taped up the windows and basically lived in three layers of clothing at all times. Some days, it was warmer outside than it was in the house. lol

I'm born and bred in western Sydney in Australia. I don't like the heat and a humid day has me sweating unbelievably. Once I discovered the Snowy Mountains region I knew I'd found my kind of place. I'm now in the South Island of NZ which has similar weather.

In saying that, I know the kind of cold some of you are experiencing is downright dangerous and not enjoyable at all.

I'm sure they were extra busy, as everyone was right before Black Friday, but in my book, either do it, or put out the disclaimer, '55 point inspection, except for the week surrounding Black Friday'... :laugh:.

Edit: Found the Ibanez 'inspection' tag... August, 2015. Sweetwater's has signatures, but no dates... convenient, to say the least.

According to the website, barrel jack inspection is #56 on the list, d'oh!
