Paging all electric enabled guys..So I pulled the Aguilar pre out of my ABII and replaced it with a Glockenklang. All is well. But I have no use for the three switch assembly that was tied into the Aguilar. So as you can see I have filled those switch holes with LED lamps. Probably don't need three. I was thinking of using one as a "plugged in" indicator. Any other ideas?

Active passive indicator. Or since you have green, yellow, red how about just bat life indicators. Lol.

It would be pretty cool if you did it like a db indicator also. As you play louder/harder they dial up/fall down.

Hmmmm or you could make one a push button led for a mute.

You put a glock in it, but you have a Darkglass logo on the rotary...

You could have it show your rotary selection, green, yellow red, then off is four positions, Or do active/passive on green, then use yellow and red for rotary:

1 = Yellow
2 = Red
3 = Yellow/Red
4 = Off

Of course, all that is going to take a little extra wiring...

Lasers
One laser for the singer to get back on key
One laser for the guitarist to turn down
One laser to tell the drummer that he’s fired

Just need a switch to activate the desired problem solver. Then point you Bass at the offender.
:smug: Sorry, couldn’t help myself

Howdy folks. Has anyone here had the pleasure of playing the standard Dbird? I'm very tempted to put in an order on one but my only worry is about it being passive. I've used active basses for the longest time now and I'm so used to having an onboard preamp. What's the tone like?
If you're into heavy stuff, this TB member and YouTuber has posted a bunch of vids:

how much additional battery drain the necessary circuit would cause. Any EE's out there?

I took some EE classes. Enough to know a circuit like that needs to have very high impedance, and if so designed there will be minimal battery drain. The higher the impedance the lower the drain. I expect it can be built (or circuit purchased) cheap enough that will be more useful than awful.

I wish that was the case with the little led on my truck alarm. If left for a few weeks in the winter it seems that’s all it takes to drain the crappy motomaster batteries enough to not crank. I had no idea that a little led could do it but on sub par batteries.... it can.

I just like stuff that lights up, it doesn’t actually need to do anything.

Seems like the push pull active passive switch turns the Glockenlang pre on and off. I’m not sure the input jack is involved at all. I’m not sure you’d want to involve that circuit with a few decorative lights.

You’ll want some kind of switch, so maybe back to one mini toggle and two “producer” lights, the whole circuit being totally independent of the bass’s electronics. Those leds probably don’t need much power.
It would be super cool if they flashed randomly or pulsed.

If you like glowing dots, check out the Luminlay side dot markers. I installed the blue 3mm dots on my AB-1 six string. One stick did the whole neck. It was easy, less than two hours to remove the neck, install the dots, do a good cleaning and touch up a couple frets, and restring.

I got a huge charge out of those glowing dots. I think it cost about $35 total, including some drill bits and super glue.

No batteries involved and the Luminlay isn’t blindingly bright like the leds on Alembics.

Ok, so I'm thinking about changing part of my order. I'm contemplating a switch from a D-Bird Standard to an ABZ4/3. I'd spec it out like the other ABZs that I have on order(3x, Darkglass, S/P switches). Here's my thought process-unlike ABZs, at some point, there will probably be D-Bird Standards available, so if I really want one, I can wait and get one. I don't think any Canadian Dingwalls will ever be readily available. Price-wise, they aren't ridiculously far apart. Last, but not least, the Afterburner body shape gives me that funny feeling in my tummy, the T/D-bird shape, while I like it, does not. I'm kinda torn. What do you guys think?

Also, I changed my Trans White order to Midnight Burst...;-)

I'm thinking that even when the market for used D-Bird standards opens, you'll have to jump fast. Used ABZ's do come up occasionally, but they won't be exactly what you would custom order for yourself. I'd stick with the custom ABZ!

Another consideration is high fret access. I have a passive ABZ4/2 which is delightful and I actually found nicer than the Canadian DBird I briefly tried in Seattle. Not entirely a fair comparison though, and somewhat far apart in time.
I decided my goal is the D-Bird standard I ordered plus an ABZ-4 plus a Combustion 5. Should cover everything I want to do. Stoked cause I just got asked to join a new band today.
