Yes the Forte has an effects loop. I've tried both ways, into the effects return and into the front input. I generally like the front input because the Forte has a very good compressor circuit that is bypassed in the effects loop. That's how I will run the Avalon for sure. I haven't had enough time with the Millennia unit to decide which way I want to run that. It had a pretty extensive EQ so I'm leaning towards using the effects loop with that. Had a chance to use the Avalon at a gig last night and loved it. It was used on bass on so many hit records that is was a very familiar sound. I mainly used tone settings 1 and 2, both of them scooped to some degree.

I wasn't really quoted a specific lead time, but I went into this with the expectation of an 18 month wait. It figures into my saving plan, so I'm ok with it. I told Jason to tell Sheldon to take as much time as he needs, I've got some decent basses to play while I'm waiting, lol!

I ordered one of the metalflake d birds a couple days after playing the prototype and talking with Sheldon at the london bass show. I should get my d bird around this years november:D.

I live fairly close to the area and was able to get out of work early, so I was the first person to show up. He said he had 5 other people in line after me if I didn't take it, as if I needed further convincing...

Yes it is in desperate need of a cleaning and won't see regular use until I've gotten rid of the grime! It seems that there isn't a single screw on it that doesn't have at least a bit of corrosion...

I'm not going to touch the finish though since I really like its worn look, battle scars and all (maybe it's better in person?)

Was it living in an area near saltwater? Or where, geographically?

Lol...I was one of those 5. I thought well if I could get it for 1200 bucks I would get it...dip my feet into 5 strings again.....but good snag. Go get your rabies shots. Lol cheers

  • I have an Afterburner that I put Nordstrand Big Splits in and it sounds beastly.
  • I have a Combustion that I have kept stock since getting it. Sounds really good, but it's in the same general tone family as the Afterburner and is by comparison more polite and sedate.
  • I have a Kiesel Icon 5 with single coil pickups that growls for days. I don't like that it's not multiscale and it's a bit heavier than the Dingwalls.
  • I tried out a Brice Defiant 53437 as a potential modding platform, but didn't grok with it and so returned it.
  • I thought long and hard about ordering a Halo custom 5 string (essentially reproducing the scale length, string spacing and compound neck radius of the Afterburner) with Nordstrand Big Singles. The thought would then be that I could get rid of the Combustion and the Kiesel since the Halo would combine what I liked about both those basses. However...
  • I just ordered a set of Big Singles from Nordstrand. They're going in the Combustion. Easy peasy!

Yes, absolute steal at that price. And, as I suspected, the ad photos did not do the wood finish justice at all. Beautiful natural wood finish. I recently bought a 2004 "road worn" AB II 6 string for $1,000 more that your bass. Didn't have any oxidation on the bridge or tuners, but the oil finish was dull and almost worn to the wood in a few places. I used some 0000 steel wool and then applied a few coats of tung oil and completely transformed the looks of the bass. I can't find a "before" but here is the "after" photo. It's a bubinga top...what's yours?

That is stunning!! Great job on your refinish, I may have to go the same route with mine now that I see what might be accomplished. Mine is a pau ferro top.
