Just buggin ya but I love both options you listed. I run the Payosn SS regularly but the dingwalls are fantastic as well and payson ships out to your door in like a week.

I went ahead and ordered a couple of sets from Payson to see if I like those. At least shipping was free.

This is good. I have a few sets of Dingwall SS for fivers. Just gauging the market. ~$35 a set is not cheap. Nice to find the best price if I can.

Well... That's far from what I paid, but it is the most I've paid. But I see your point. Can't help it though. If there's a high price paid for an item, it helps in the long run, if you can keep maintenance costs lower. I bought this bass now while I can. In a matter of months (18-24) I'll be retired and that'll be a game changer. a. The old "fixed income" thing. and b. I will actually be playing more, so I'll be going through strings even faster.

Congrats though!! Sounds like your in a fantastic place to be. Retired, top notch gear, playing lots.

Honestly though. The Dingwall and payson strings are design for these instruments and do a fantastic job with reliability and tone.
Ive never tried them but I don’t think Kalium would be up your alley as it sounds like they don’t ship quick and I believe they are top of the cost spectrum( might be wrong on this).

I will say this though. You will get a longer life out of the nickels or paysonRCs then the SS strings of that becomes a factor and the sound will suit your needs.

I haven't tried Payson's SS, but the RC Nickels are wonderful. Congratulations on your new bass and your retirement! I hope to work a few more years, God willing, but I think I already have my basses covered for retirement. The only possible change I see in my 'arsenal' would be the right pre-owned 4-string Afterburner...

There was one listed earlier this year. The buyer took it off the market, then re-listed. While it was unavailable, the NG-2 I ended up buying became available and I jumped.

As mentioned above, I sold one to a guy in Ontario earlier this year. I bought my ABZ4 used as well. Mind you, both of those came from a time when they made less than 10 a year, so they were pretty rare.

I sold that red 4 locally this year, brought it back from the UK. The guy who owns it now is waiting on a custom AB 4 so it will almost certainly be back up for sale in around 12 months, in the Ottawa area.

I was only being slightly serious about the AB 4's because in my area I didn't recall ever seeing one. They seem to be rare. But actually thinking about it @DiabolusInMusic had one for sale in my own city not long ago, and there was a second one that wasn't too far away either
