Any whispers on the D-Bird standards yet? I'm at just over 12 months wait time now, I know, good things come to those who wait etc.
Just posting in an effort to mitigate the urge to mail Dingwall for an update.

I wonder if dealers would make a list of backup buyers. Deals fall through, folks hit money trouble, etc. Murphy’s law says your roof will leak the day your bass arrives.

I’m not saying they’d take deposits, just a list of people that are interested. You might wake up to an email: “Dbird in purple, first to call with a credit card gets it!”

I’m not one to order and wait, I like the luck of the draw. Prowling the used ads in the meantime.

Maybe, I don’t know. Just using the purple Dbird as an example. Like the one Jason at Fret Nation has on his site.

The thing I’ve noticed is the DBird four strings seem to be running under 8 lb, whilst NG2 four strings are running 8-8.5 lb. I lean toward passive, simple controls. The Dbird standard is also running a few hundred dollars less, probably this reflects the price of a preamp and labor to install it.

I’ll mull over details in an endless loop, but I’m quick with a “buy it” decision. I know I’d be able to flip a Dingwall if it doesn’t work out.

I’m just not sure I want to get back to three basses. I couldn’t part with either the Super P or the Cirrus. I’m not a hoarder. I’m not.

I can’t help but shudder when I see all those beautiful, expensive basses on tradeshow tables.

Can you imagine having to listen to the din of NAMM for three solid days? Like being locked in a giant Guitar Center and trying to do business.

Ok maybe this will help. If you look at the fretboard, most have a fan design,which according to Sheldon, are designed to keep the fretboard within a "reachable " length. This is designed for comfort with a side effect of reducing the weight. Check out the Lee Sklar model . Oh well drooling doesn't work. Cheers from the frozen north LT

Someone else had an issue with the Payson bridge not covering a hole? Different bass?

This bridge will be able to cover all the holes on my NG2 to NG3 conversion that is being done right now. I'm adding 3 FDV's, carbon pg, all black hardware: hipshots, drop tuner, bridge, s/p switches & of the course the 6 way switch. View attachment 3309919

Talk to me, Dingwall sisters and brethren.

I've been contemplating a custom order. Although my ABHS currently has (no pun intended) all bases covered, I have recently again started longing for the simplicity of the Super P. One pickup and a tone control. I've always been a P-bass person at heart, ever since being inspired by Steve Harris of Iron Maiden to pick up the bass. The ABHS is quite heavy as well, and while I've never had back issues due to playing, it would be nice with a lighter bass. There's also the fact that I'm ever so much more comfortable with 19 mm spacing than 18 mm. In reality it's not that big of a difference, but it's my personal preference being 6'5" with spider fingers.

I'm thinking Sonic Blue, tort PG and maple/maple neck/FB. That, or LPB, tort and maple/Pau Ferro neck/FB. Possibly MHS on either option.

I'm leaning more towards the first option. I love pastel colors and blue basses. What I am more unsure of, is whether or not it should be a 4- or 5-string. A 4-string would be a complement to my ABHS, whereas the 5-string would likely replace it. I could compromise and go with a wenge/wenge neck/FB on the 5.

I'd love some advice, here!

This Lake Placid Blue bass was one I had made. It was supposed to be a fretless and make a fretted by accident and why I sold it immediately, and then ordered my 6 fretless.
... I'd go with the Lake Placid myself...
