All the threads are in the wood, but with no tension on it, it's fairly loose in the hole.

My Combustion's string tree is the same - very (hard to see) slight bend in the middle, and when not under string tension (my neck is currently off the bass and mods are being done on the body) the two screws rock slightly - when strung up ZERO issues so I wouldn't worry about it.

Yes. Both of mine are like this, similarly they're not 'screwed in' all the way, but remember that that also would increase the break angle of the strings at the nut, so one may assume it's intentional.

Totally agree. I honestly like the new shape better and also commented earlier that it aligns with Dingwall's design aesthetic to a greater degree.

Unlike Mike, the other night I had some fans in a festival crowd commenting that they don't know how I stand there and look so calm and nonplussed and deal out driven tight bass for 2+ hours!

Awesome, I couldn't even imagine playing in front of a crowd of people! I get nervous playing in front of a family member. That woman has some pipes!
I figured that the string tree is normal, just wanted to make sure. Still really liking the bass and my playing has been improving, again, it just fits me, I appreciate it every time I grab one of my other basses.
I have been working on my slap/pop technique, so much fun- I love how a good riff grows out of nothing.

The 3X kit is on it's way, I'm just hoping I don't lose the MEAT as it doesn't have a mode for bridge/neck in series (if I'm reading the docs. correctly)

I got to talk to Sheldon at NAMM a couple years ago, and based on that, I will bet the above statement is accurate. I had asked about a minor D-Bird change between the prototype and the production models, and his answer was exactly that - the original design was too labor intensive. I would bet he used the need to change the body shape as an opportunity to solve a production issue with the headstock.

Well, people play for different reasons. I discovered that in my very first high school band. One of our guitar players was really good in practice...but we couldn't get him on stage.

To me, the crowds are why you do it. Also, once you get to a certain size crowd it feels different. There's less one-on-one and individual faces and more of a big wash of movement...it's less intimidating. There's a place in the middle that's hard for me...a few hundred people in a big space is harder than a few thousand people in the same space.

That crowd from the picture above (Grassroots Festival) was super fun, they were WAY into it and it was a late set (12:45 to just after 2am)...it was one of those shows where people wanted our setlists, empty water cups, etc.

You'll have plenty of beef with the 3X. I found I liked the bridge/middle series position maybe a little better than the neck/bridge series position. Still thick but with a bit more clarity.

I play for fun and stress relief, I have ADD and feel on edge when I'm not doing something, learning/reading or challenging myself. I have been playing for church, still learning how they do things (I couldn't read chords, keys or the like... still can't that well), but having fun and learning something other than tabs and rock/metal.

Hard to tell much in a video like that... But yeah it's Dingwall NG3 (bridge/middle series), bass boosted a little, low-mid flat, treble attenuated a little. I turn my compressor (Cali76CB) off for this song (so I can have a wider dynamic range); a LA-2A clone pedal (set to hardly trigger at all, it just has a great tone-mojo when on) into an FDeck HPF-3 set to 35hz...into my Monique.

It doesn't matter where you play or who you play for, as long as it makes you feel good.

Just got this fella, and i cant believe it. I finally got another dingwall and its a D-Bird. So impressed by this bass..
