Ok, do the FDVs have more output than the FD-3n's with the same setup(i.e. both w/DGTC or both passive)? I'm asking because there's a fairly noticeable difference in overall output between my passive D-Bird Standard and my NG-3. My D-Bird is quite a bit more massive sounding than my NG-3. The only way the NG gets close is if I really start boosting the EQ, which I tend to not do.
Since my last experience with FDVs was 5 or 6 years ago with a two-pickup, rectangular shelled ABZ, I really don't remember much about them, except they sounded great. I'm really hoping that FDVs w/DGTC have a similar output to FD-3n's/passive...

After A/Bing them Id have to say yes. More mid driving and that usually equals louder IME

What pickups do your Z's have?
Currently 3 Zs all with FD3s fretless, 6er 3x and 5er 2x.
I recently had a 6er 3x FDV and will have that again very shortly.
I also had the Zebra which had the FDVs.

I think the FDV’s are pretty recent. Within the last couple years.
The blue Z3 is back on the market. (I don't yet see it here on TB, else I'd link it. It's on one of the Dingwall Buy/Sell facebook groups now)

If the price were a bit lower (I got spoiled with the deal I got on my Z3), I'd maybe think about it. But, I think, if I get one more Z, it has to be not-blue, and a wenge neck.That ole Z of mine is being passed around like a joint at a Dead concert.

If it had a DGTC instead of the Glock, and Wenge neck instead of Maple I might've kept it. Instead I jumped on a custom Canadian order and specced it out for me. There's just something about having a bass built just for you, and just the way you want it.
I have a Dingwall confession to make.
I have never adjusted the pickup height or bridge on my ABI. Ever. Those wrenches are in their little baggie and don't even have my partial fingerprints on them. I have never touched them. I think I have only adjusted the truss rod three or four times in the past (almost) fourteen years.
Edit: I do have grooves worn in the pickups from playing it, though.

Take a look at the wiring for the pickups. With the D-bird switch we wired the pickups in series. With the original NG3's we wired them in parallel. Changing them from parallel to series is an easy mod for an electronics tech.
We're too backed up on production to take on any custom work. Mo's repair shop in California is where we recommend sending work like this.
We've installed them on a test bass.They sound great but not appreciably better than the first version saddles we used to install. One thing I really like is they offer much more action adjustment and are very solid. They are too expensive for our production basses but are a nice upgrade.

Hi Sheldon, Thank you for your response! My main interest in them would be the ability to use an exposed core string set, which the bridge on my Supers will not allow.
If I did decide to try them, what would be your recommendation for maintaining the 19mm spacing at the bridge?
