Ah, but how does the tone compare to a Thunderbird (60's, 70's or even Epiphone Vintage Pro), ergonomics and playability aside?

Do you solo the middle pickup much? If it's in the same position as the neck pickup on the (two-pickup) NG-2, that's a VERY sweet spot. Mine may as well not have a bridge pickup on it...
But in answer to your inquiry - nope, I've never fingered either variety... It would be fun to play one, but I've got all I need in my Dingwall quiver for praise music.

Middle soloed is my go-to setting actually: I used the “all three” setting for this particular clip, but for both tour runs I’ve been out on since early November it’s been middle soloed all the way.

Lighter? Mine is 7.5 lbs. and balances well for me.
And yeah, middle pup soloed is all I use too.

Do you have a DBird standard or custom? I think the customs are a bit heavier, which is what I have.
The DBird balances great, but the D-Roc is even a smidge better just because the longer back fin places more weight farther back.
This clip was done with the “all three” pickup setting, but both of these tours I’ve used the middle pickup for everything.

Yeah, mine's a standard. Lightest bass I've ever owned. I've given thought to a five string D-Roc once they can be found in the wild. Although I have an AB1 coming in shortly that'll be keeping me occupied for quite some time.

Yep! The only time I even attempt to play my guitar is when there isn't anyone else home. I even put the cat outside...

Actually got some semi-decent shots of my D-Bird Standard in action. I say "semi-decent" because my ugly, old @$$ is still in them. The photographer, Hannah Lee, is INCREDIBLE, but, it's still a pic that I'm in, so the quality is automatically going to be lower. She did the best she could with a less-than-mediocre subject...
It wasn't a bad night...

That's the thing, Nate, it really doesn't, LOL! I absolutely LOVE the way it sounds, but I've never been a huge T-Bird fan. I wanted to give it a shot, since Sheldon took the time to fix most of the T-Bird flaws, but it just feels so different from my other basses. When I strapped on my ABZ, I instantly felt at home before I even touched a string. I've never felt that way with the D-Bird. Love the way it sounds, dig the look, just not feeling the way it feels...
I've got an ABZ 4/3 coming soon, so, that solves that issue, LOL!
I appreciate that, my friend. I've always been a bit self-conscious when it comes to being photographed, even when I wasn't old and chubby. I try to play my @$$ off every time we're on stage though. I'm not easy on the eyes, but I can be fun to watch...LOL!
No ones judging ya for having a few extra pounds brother.... at least that’s what I tell myself! You’ve got presence! It’s obvious from those photos and that’s a hell of a lot more importanto.
I hear ya about the D bird but at least you make it look good. Heck if I tried it out, it’d be hung unnaturally high. I might as well have tape on my glasses and a pocket protector.
You've got cool hair, hip shades, facial hair, a bandana, appropriate and well-fitting clothes, an arm band, oh and a super dope bass. I don't think you have anything to worry about.
Looks great on you man! It looks like a upright bass on smaller guys!!
I'll admit I love the D Bird but it didn't feel as great as it looks but I love it to death.
I kinda play mine Robert Deleo height wise/semi upright and it works for me
At a club here in Indy called 8 Seconds Saloon. It's one of the bigger venues in the city and, as you can guess, they specialize, mainly, in country music. If you're a rising country star, you'll end up at 8 Seconds at some point on your tour. They do, however, have a nice, albeit secondary, interest in rock, so they bring some rock acts from time to time. We've played there with Alien Ant Farm, Faster Pussycat, Fuel, and Puddle of Mudd. We did one show with multiple bands, and I can't remember who all was there, but one of the bands the we played with was Pop Evil. That was cool. The show pictured was with Jackyl and it was last Friday night.
We've actually got our own show there in Feb., so we're really looking forward to that!
I absolutely LOVE Robert DeLeo! I just think the man is a fantastic bassist, songwriter, and showman. If I could be comfortable wearing my bass like he does, I'd do it, but this bass is already at my low limit, LOL!
