FD5? Where did you see that? FD3, FDV, SF2, PTone I'm aware of. Are you going to route it or have it done?
I would guess FDV = FD5 in that context, given Roman numerals and all.

I like them a lot, I think they would look extra great on an all black Super with a BWB pickguard.

perhaps the photos don’t do it justice but I’d like to see them pop out a bit more
I get what you mean, I think the body of that one being particularly busy means they stand out a lot less. I may go for these on my Super order if they are available/do not add too much $$ over the standard speedo bars.

I kind of like them because they don't "pop out" more. Honestly, when I've ordered custom basses before, I will, 99.9% of the time, order them WITHOUT face dots. I really prefer a "clean" fretboard. I would've ordered my Dingwalls without face dots, but they're so small, they're kinda cute, and I'm a sucker for Luminlay!

I assume it has a Alnico V (Alnico 5) magnet, hence the name?
A note on the Luminlay -- there are numerous Side Dot options available, so always make sure you get the one you want.Agree with the idea of seeing them in blue Luminlay, that would be sweet.

They have solid dots (green and blue) in various sizes, and they also have them with a "Pipe", which means that the glowing dot is surrounded by an outer circle that is either white or black.
If you are getting up there in years like I am, your eyes may not work as well as they used to, like mine don't.
So I want to be able to see the dots in normal room light and daylight as well as in the dark.
I've had a couple of basses that had plain dots or dots with a white pipe on a maple fingerboard and maple neck, and it was extremely hard for me to see the dots in the daylight.
I got a bass with all maple but with the black pipe, and it made it MUCH easier to see the dots in the daylight.
I also had one with dark wood and a black pipe, and all I could say was, "What was the builder thinking?" He was just lazy and used whatever dots he had on hand rather than getting the right type. The black pipe served no purpose.
My $0.02 suggestions:
-Get black pipe if they are going into a maple background.
-Get white pipe if they are going into a dark-colored wood. The white pipe makes the dots even easier to see in daylight than the plain solid Luminlay dots.
They also come in different diameters. Personally, I like the 2mm dots inside of the 3mm or 3.5mm pipe.

yeah. They’ll look sharp in 99% of any builds. The more I look, the more I like. It reality it is just an inlay boarder using the FB wood as the guts.
It could even be the dark background behind the dark FB offering me the minimized perception of them.
I saw a gent doing a demo video refer to new fd5’s vs 3s in his ... buy makes sense could be Fdvintage ... If no one else here has heard ...

I know a guy in Calgary. I think there is a few good guys in town but Steve R came with a great reputation and then delivered 100% on work I had him do. It wasn’t routing but he does build his own instruments as well so I’m very sure he’s capable to a high standard.I’d have it done .... anyone know a great choice in Edmonton Alberta?
