I also find the rotary switch on my SPJ5 useful. It's usually either P or PJ in parallel, but sometimes PJ in series. Even though its a good J pickup I use it in combination with the P and don't solo it. I added series/parallel switching to my NG2 and really liked the mid pickup solo with the coils in series. I don't know if anyone has considered this yet but there is one simple mod that would provide 3 additional combinations for an SJ5XXX indicated below with (*). Wire the middle and bridge pickups to their series/parallel switches but have a P-tone wired series in the neck position and use that 3rd switch to select either the neck or middle pickup for the 4-way rotary switch.
With the neck pickup selected this would provide:
- Neck solo
- Neck and bridge series (*)
- Neck and bridge parallel
- Bridge solo
With the middle pickup selected this would provide:
- Middle solo (*)
- Middle and bridge series
- Middle and bridge parallel (*)
- Bridge solo
This should be a minor wiring change if the 3 switches are DPDT. The only redundant setting is solo bridge and I think the middle solo and neck and bridge series would be nice to have.
With the neck pickup selected this would provide:
- Neck solo
- Neck and bridge series (*)
- Neck and bridge parallel
- Bridge solo

Great thinking here 5SP! What would this entail for my SJ5XXX which already has 3 s/p switches (BTW they are on a switch board using screws instead of solder at the PUP end)?
Not knowing what the switch board looks like, I'm sure Dingwall tech support could answer this. I've had excellent advice and communication with questions in the past.
That's the right number. My FD3-4L from the neck position of my ABZ is labeled as 8.5 k-ohm.
Why is bridge soloed a setting on all of the rotary combinations? I have never heard of one person who likes/uses it. Is it a natural function of the way they have to be wired? It seems like a waste of a setting to me.

Not trying to be a contrarian in this, but for the first time, I have a Dingwall that I actually like having the bridge pup soloed. My new ABI sounds really good in that setting. I do add some bass boost with it, and I roll off a bit off the highs, but it does sound good. George (Bass Gear Direct Australia) made me a demo clip of the bass during my evaluation period, and I was surprised that I thought it sounded good in the clip, and it does now in person.
Having said that, I am not sure how much I will use it, but it is the first Dingwall I've owned where I do not find that setting unusable for my purposes. Not sure if its the alder body, or the combo of alder with wenge, or what. But this is the first alder bodied Dingwall I've owned.
I have only ever used the bridge pickup soloed on one song and it required a significant bass boost to be useable.
BB, but that's the point, being happy with that setting. Everything else is so perfect it's strange to have that little nit. But I'm confident I'll get it sorted out and be satisfied as you are.
Just in case anyone was curious what an NG-2 through the new Darkglass Electronics Alpha-Omega sounds like
I have an NG2 on order and plan on ordering a Z3 in the near future, but this demo scares me a bit, does the Darkglass only have the driven sound, or can it be versatile ??????
