Doctor's appointment at 4...can't practice at 6!

For perspective. I live in Los Angeles and here it is quite possible for that 2 hour window to be a significant factor.
...
EDIT - @Ronky mentions food a few posts after this one. Absolutely. The timeline above has no time for a meal, which could mean not eating since maybe 3pm before the 4pm appointment and waiting until after rehearsal or grabbing food and eating at some point (possibly a sandwich while driving).
It could be no food since before bedtime the night before. Also, there's often the need to go to the lab (usually in the same building) for a blood draw, urinalysis, etc, and the lab has its own wait.

Honestly I think at this point the OP's just searching around for stuff to gripe about.

When you're in your 70's yeah shag band practice and go the appointment. Appointments are harder to reschedule and help you live longer to have more time to practice.

You guys could play another day of the week, double up the time next week or stay with me, heaven forbid you skip a week.

This band hasn't gigged at all. We just started last August and have only had 7 rehearals in that time. Not enough to put a set list together.

Based on this info yeah screw jamming. you guys are nowhere near committed and invested enough to be skipping appointments etc. and it being a "problem".

Only 7 meetups for like what 20 plus weeks or so of time since you started? I mean this tells you the reality of the situation right here.

Bandmate has a doctor's appointment at 4 p.m. but can't practice at 6 p.m. Does that seem right? It's a simple appointment, not anything very serious. I don't want to say what it is but it isn't invasive or anything that he would have to be anesthestized for or anything like that. A simple appointment.

Have you ever been to a Dr. who is on time? Maybe your bandmate is trying to prevent screwing the rest of you by cancelling at the last minute.

Nah, he's like me... I don't like rehearsing! J/K, but to an extent I definitely don't like to rehearse unless it's absolutely necessary.

As I said in post #7 this person has missed a lot of rehearsals since we've been trying to put this new band together, some health related, some not, some seem like he's just not wanting to practice, like he's looking for some/any reason not to. So, yeah, the context is that he's missed a lot, which I had previously resisted posting about.

As a matter of fact, with tonight's rehearsal cancelled it will be over two months since our last rehearsal. And since we're talking about it, our first rehearsal for this new band was on August 3, 2022 and from then to now we've only rehearsed 7 times out of a potential 26 rehearsal nights. So yeah, we've missed WAY more than we have rehearsed (not all due to this one guy, but most of them were) and we've never had rehearsals two weeks in a row.

But anyway, never mind. I'm sorry I started this thread.

Well with all facts in view, you and your bandmates do indeed have a problem - perhaps the errant lad has commitment issues?

If it’s a constant thing just ask him if it’s what he wants to do or if he has reason. Bands operate differently. I have a band that plays every Thursday like clockwork. If one of them can’t make it we are all close enough to understand why. If someone misses unannounced usually we are hitting them up more worried about them than practice. We are all adults and drama is something I don’t do. My other band practices 2 times a month… but we have homework and all new songs are written and sent out online so when we practice everyone is on the same page and we just do minor adjustments. It actually is really productive that way. We practice less together so we enjoy it more and I can learn the songs while playing with my baby boy and in between hanging out with my wife. Each band works differently but the most important thing you can have is communication. I would go talk to my band mate instead of stewing on it. If he has a problem with that cut the drama and find someone else. You only live once so keep your friends close and unreliable people can go elsewhere. Bands come and go. There’s always another one around the corner. Friends not so much.

In this case WHY aren't you looking for replacement when you seem to know the answer?

If it’s anything like I usually experience on late in the day doctor visits, he might not see the doctor until 6:00….

It seems you've answered your own question.

The appointment is at 4pm. The doctor will be running late because it's at the end of the day. Then he needs to leave there, go home, get his stuff, get to where you are rehearsing, and then hope he doesn't have any issues due to not having time for dinner.

I'm sorry, but the way you are constantly complaining about your bandmates is getting to the point of ridiculous. Let the dude have his doctor's appointment in peace. If it bothers you that much, quit - but you're going to keep inventing new reasons to be upset about something else in life.

Whatever is causing you to be unhappy, it ain't the band. You need to get to the root of it and fix it, or learn to chill out and perhaps take up meditation.
