Does anyone care about strap color?

Usually I do. Sunburst gets a brown strap. Natural basses might get a tan colored strap. Some get black depending on what color they are and I try to match them to my different basses.

Since lots of people care so much about the color of their bass, the strap you wear with it is somewhat important, no? I mean - straps are pretty visible on stage.

I have a white Stingray with a white pickguard, and I'm considering a white strap to go along with it. Too much?
I didn't... cause in the old days, my basses (and guitars) were either white or black, so I had few straps which color I didn't care so much. AFAIR I had only 2 straps in the 80s and one was blue. Then since early 90s, mainly I had used only one strap, which had bright green color, only because it had thick foamy (neoprene?) material. I've lost track of where I had put it.

Now that I've added (and sold) few basses to my collection, which mostly have natural (from light to dark) wood colors, I wen't to safer black color straps. But growing number of basses means more strap(s)... So I've been thinking to buy another. But this time I care more of the strap color.

Most of my current basses are 6 stringers which are relatively heavy, thus good padding and weight distribution straps are a must. I've already had Gruv Gear Duo Strap Neo and Planet Waves 3" padded strap which are black. For the next one I'm thinking of Levy's 4.5" strap, but I'm still choosing which color... and for sure it won't be black. I'm thinking either brown, dark brown or tan.

Which one of the brown, dark brown or tan color straps will likely match my basses' natural (from light to dark) wood colors?

OK. 2nd comment on this silly thread.

I don't care what color my bass guitar strap is as long as it is "tort". ;)

I try to get something that looks good together. And I like to have a strap for each bass. So...I don't know if it's so much I care (a nice black leather strap goes with everything I suppose) but it's not that much extra money. And one of the little rituals I have when bringing home any new bass is going out and getting it it's own strap, just like you'd buy a new pet dog his/her very own collar. It's sort of a symbol to me that I've formally taken possession...

So yeah... I guess I do care.

My GF certainly does. She matches a strap to each new guitar she buys as carefully as she does her stage clothes. But she's a stickler for details like that - with anything.

Same deal here. I like to have at least SOME kind of backup strap in each bass case and gig bag. Originally I didn't much care and with all the basses I have I did not want to spend a fortune on just straps. So I began with just plain old cheap black nylon. Well you know they aren't so great and as time goes on your shoulder isn't so happy with them either. So my first "boutique" strap was made for me by some artist I know who does weaving etc. I really like the look of it! And then I found these leather strap kits that were pretty cheap. You are supposed to be all craftsy and "tool" the leather, but I'm not into the cowboy look. But since they come raw it's best if you dye them. So I did one in black and it looked great and then a couple more in other colors and they looked great too. And then when the price went up, I looked elsewhere.

So those two things had me on the lookout for super bargain straps. Well, one day it happened. I'm cruising the net and what to my wondering eyes do appear but a gigantic Planet Waves strap sale at Amazon (or some place like that I'm not sure of the exact store). Anyway there are these really prime soft wide leather straps for a SONG! Well, ya snooze ya lose. So here's the deal they had them in all these various colors and all the same price...Soooo! Yep, giant order of straps all carefully matched to each bass just like a woman! Cripes sometimes I even embarrass myself.

Ain't nothing wrong or embarrassing with that AFAIC. If the ladies consistently do something better by doing it their way than I do, I'm not above copying them - and machismo be damned. ;):cool:
