Just bought a tn501, as they are ridiculously cheap at Thomann right now: only 226 €. I was looking for a 500w class D to replace my old wt300. The WT is still running fine, but I want to loose some weight and I’m getting a bit overprotective of that ‘98 WT that did so well for all this years.
I think the TN 501 is pretty, and looks a lot less cheap compared to the web pictures. I tried it at my first bigband rehearsal in decades and it worked fine. It was very easy to dial in the same warmth as the WT has. They sound similar, the WT only has some more clarity in the upper mids that I could not yet duplicate with the TN. Overall it sounds a bit darker. In it’s defence: the cab might have been factor too.
To my ears the parametric controls have a slightly wider Q. Makes the EQ feel a bit less chirurgical as the WT. But that’s a very small difference. A big pre is the switch that cuts out the enhance. I never use the enhance.
The always on fan lets it down IMHO. It is too load for home/studio use. Totally moot on a gig though, I didn’t even notice in rehearsal. Still, I decided to change it out. I bought a much quieter fan with the same specs and a little more airflow for 7 €. 30 minutes of work later the amp is almost silent. A cheap and easy mod and the fastest warranty void I ever did.

I can only see the 225W version on their site. I’d be interested in playing with the 501 if I could get it.
Interesting - is that a new model? The TN501 has the single pre like the TN226.
I had no use for the two channels and the TN 502 hasn’t hit those bargain bottom prices yet. My guess is they are ending production for the 501.
A bonus for the 502 might be that the aux in and combined fx return are probably after the eq sections. For the 501 they are post gain and enhance, but before eq. Not a serious problem, but I plan to use the 501 also as a slave power amp for my little ampeg pf 20-t tube amp. Actually the added eq options might come in handy. I just like to minimise excess electronics in my signal chain.

I bought this amp pre-owned and was similarly disappointed by the fan sound, at least while practising at home. Sounds like a truly worthwhile mod you undertook! I wonder if you'd be willing to save me some hassle and share the specs of the replacement fan you bought? I'd like to have a go at the same operation.
The original specs are:
Size: 60*60 mm 15mm depth.
24v, 19,4 m3 airflow
37 dBA noise
I could only find the specsheet on a Russian partsstore.
I replaced it with a fan with 25mm depth, airflow 20m3 (could have gone for more) and 11 dBA noise. there is space tot fit a deeper fan, you do need longer bolts to secure it.
The new fan might fit to the connector on the board, but to get there you’d need to remove it from the backpanel. So I just connected the wires to their respective colours.
