Effects-- what's your fave and why?

I had a CS-3 long time ago. Hated it, noisy, loses a lot of low end.

What gives you the impression that so many effects are pointless?
I've been thru so many. And I hated the CS-3. Noisy and thin. Ok on guitar tho.

I bought a CS-3 a long time ago for a cheap price. I thought it wouldn't hurt to try... but I pretty much experienced the same thing. Later, I got it modded by Humphrey Audio called the "Ultra Bass Smasher" mod. It was much better after the mod. It's usable, and does what I need it do... so it stopped me from having the urge to spend $300+ for a better compressor, but the temptation is still there... haha

EHX Hot Wax

I don't want it to be, but it is… if I got to take a single pedal this would be it… I get great dirt, a booster and a fuzz only by pressing either switches or both.

I've gone trough lots of drives and dirts and this thing always ends up on top, specially in the mix!

I don't use a lot of effects, but the couple that I do use I use a lot. Multi-band compression (on all the time) and octaver are my favorites. Working on some synth bass configs right now also.

Try a nice Plate model, cut the feed below 500hz, and a nice short decay, less than 1/2 a second. I find this gives a lovely, precise and defined presence.

Jbybi, that really sounds like the ticket. But, what kind of rev device would have tone control to minus the 500hz range? I could see doing it at the amp, but there goes the bottom.

Thanks !

I've been through A LOT of effects over the years. Ended up recently switching to a Helix HX Stomp XL and it's replaced my entire pedal board. I may end up running my little Broughton HPF at the end of the chain for a little easy room tuning (if the room 'booms' the HPF starting going up in frequency until it stops) but other than that, really no reason for anything else
