Actually there's only one person saying that, but I don't think anyone cares because it's probably the dumbest thing ever written on a musicians forum.

Ive been waiting for Maureen Herman to show up, the most impressive female bass plr I ever saw/heard live, of course the band (Babes In Toyland) and her personal style had something to do with it. In the past she has made other girl-bass player threads here (search function) and also a thread about players who use a pick. Before Maurine Babes In Toyland had another good bass player, Michelle Leon, who flailed the bass , and this is the way to run a set, no stupid talk

Excuse if I am. I once jammed with some guys in the 90's the singer was a typical pandantic know it all front man, he like to correct everyone, to show off his musical knowledge, and keep you in place! It seemed like he loved to put me down cause I played bass & it was a feminine Insturment! he always referenced Kim Deal, carol kay, & countless others. It didnt bug me until I noticed he did it to trying to get under my skin! then it just became annoying. We broke cause the rest of the band hated him too, go figure. soon after we broke, it got me thinking why in some bands did the female get the bass duties? is the bass role considered the least masculine? or most feminine? White zombie was just starting to get popular or get hot, & the drummer had a big crush on Sean Yseult ! and one of the smashing pumkin ladies Darcy? making me feel a little weird. He worked near SIR studio in Hollywood and got met Sean,& to make matters worse, he couldnt shut up about her! it just made me question, did I miss something? when did bass become the "chick" Instrument? once it was brought up I started noticing or recognizing how many female bassists there were! I even remember on "Happy days" their Rock band had Suzi Quattro on bass! It never bothered me, most if not all of them were better than me! Im all for do anything you want to do! I always liked seeing more women in music, I loved the whole "Lilith faire" movement in the 90's to the chagrin of a lot of my friends:( I just wanted to know if the bass being more of a feminine instrument was always the perception or did I totally miss the Memo? Asking for a friend. Sorry if I offend: )

I'm hardly the butchest, most chest-beatingly masculine guy you'll find, and I've always related to it as a tactile, sensual instrument, so maybe you have a point: could be that it appeals to my feminine side.

There is no female or male instrument, there are only preferences based on environment and culture. There are probably also fad effects, like the ukulele, for example. Girls seem to like it more than boys, at least for now. IME/IMO/YMMV etc. :)
