Just got back from the Fodera shop. So cool in there, and everyone was really nice and welcoming. There was a box elder burl topped imperial with a Birdseye board that had me drooling. It was a brief stop, but I was really happy to go and couldn't be happier to be a new member of the club/family!

I hate gold hardware and won't own an instrument with it. That said, on some Foderas I think the overall look of the instrument is better with gold over black - just depends on the woods.

I used to be the same way, but once I saw gold hardware on my emperor 5 I was sold. I think it works really nicely with lighter colored woods like figured maple or box elder Burl.
Buckeye, Koa, walnut and other dark woods, in my opinion, work better with black hardware.

I don't dislike the gold hardware, I just felt like a change but I do prefer the black hardware now. Also the newer bridge allows for lower action!

You also had the "NYC" bridge on your Monarch ??? My Emperor 06' also came with this bridge (in the Pre-Jason area they seemed to put the bridge on a Bass that was available and laying around at the shop
) and I also have set the lowest possible setting of this bridge - but I'm pretty sure that could go lower with the "Custom shop" bridge....
Also the newer bridge allows for lower action!

THAT'S my problem too ! The screw blocks the saddle of the G string...
Because of that I have a relatively high string action.....

I'm pretty sure they're both the Custom Shop bridges, they've just changed the design slightly. If you look at the 2 bridges, the older gold one is raised under the saddles whereas the newer black one isn't, it has a consistent height all the way along which allows you to have the saddles lower.
Also the newer bridge allows for lower action!

Yes I think they have. Although this isn't the problem I had, I just found the saddle for my E string was bottomed out so I couldn't go any lower. When I was at Fodera earlier this week I asked Joey about this and he told me you could either grind down the screw a small bit or alternatively you could sand down the bottom of the saddle a bit. I didn't bother doing this as I wanted to change it to a black bridge anyway and he showed how they've changed the newer ones slightly so that solved my problem.
Just a language observation: Looking back on older posts, I noticed both Lugzy and Lennard use the term 'Californian'; this must be a European/British thing, as I've seen that turn of phrase used before as well. Over here in the states, we never say it that way. We would say 'California Walnut', without the 'n' on California. The way you guys write it is not wrong, just different. I just find/found it interesting
100% agree with Todd on this. I'm really not a big fan of gold hardware, either. My on-order Chestnut/Brazilian originally specified black. After much consideration, I decided that black, against the light Chestnut, would look wrong...to my eyes anyway. Plus, the warmth of the gold with the Brazilian fretboard just seemed like a natural. For my particular pieces of wood, that is. Jason fully agreed. For whatever that's worth. Plus...I have one set of black Fodera hardware already...on my YYD!
