Hey guys :)

Here's a new Larry Graham slap play along video with my Monarch Standard, if anyone wonders how close they sound to a '70s JB :)
Strings are Fodera strings, and 5 monthes old now!! Haven't changed them since I bought the bass, so I'd expect better :rolleyes:

Jason - does preamp jumpers effects the sound of the preamp/bass when everything is set flat. I changed the jumpers so I have the kill switch but can't decide if I should have low bass/mid or high bass/mid!

and you will never decide.... well I haven't, I always switch around....

btw. ask Lennard how he set it on his bass..... oh I forgot he doesn't have preamp :D

AJ/Jimmy Johnson vain. Hopefully I will get it finalized next week then bite my nails in anticipation

Just an update to my specs. My whole thing is getting the sound close to the AJ tone but also having the
tone flexibility. So looks like the Emperor II SC would get me there and to tell you the truth that's what I
Really wanted. We are going to move the neck pickup to the AJ sweet spot, leaving the bridge in the
70's jazz position. With the Pope preamp and the modified pickup position, combined with the SC neck
through for sustain and the 35" scale, the tone will very close to my dream tone. I thought about a 36"
scale but I think my left hand will be crying foul, so the 35" is a great compromise. Alder body with the flame
Maple to match my E5S, kind of like its bigger brother. Once I get the production date the anticipation will set
in. Nothing real fancy, but at the same time all of the tonal stuff that I've always wanted.

I'm coming crazy because I don't know anything about electronics. I mean if there was problem with neck or some wood work it's been piece of cake to me because I'm schooled luthier but electrics.....
I hope that Flexcore paggage have good installation constructions:)

The white wire with two leads is both the positive and negative wire from the pickup. The braided outer wire is the negative lead and the center wire is the positive lead. The red wire is the power wire from the EMG's. There is a spot on the main board to hook up that wire. PM if you have any other questions, I have a Monarch New Standard as well and I put a Flexcore in my bass. You will be SHOCKED how much better the bass sounds with the Flexcore. It was a night and day difference for me and the Flexcore is waaaaaay more flexible.

is that the newest standard. I thought is was very similar to the flexcore

Hey guys,

I finally got my MG 5. It was done a month ago and I actually had planned to pick up the bass myself just as I did with my Emperor 5 in 2011. But due to my schedule if wasn’t possible. Too much work and gigs very weekend. My plan was to have the bass shipping over but because of the very high Danish taxes it’s way cheaper to pick up the bass myself. A business friend of mine was in the NYC that time so he picked it up for me and that was great. He lives in Dublin, Ireland but would come to Denmark after NYC so everything was perfect. But he plans changed the last minute and when he got home to Dublin he had to go to Istanbul the day after. Not time to ship the bass! The time went by and when he got back from Istanbul it wasn’t sure that he would go to DK so I wanted to travel to Ireland and pickup the bass. But last minute his plans changed and he got to Denmark after all and I got my bass! This was great of him. I got a few PM’s about me getting the bass, so now you all the know the story. I got the bass a work and I had a friend filming me the first time I saw the bass and I will post that at some point.

Now back to the bass. We all know that Fodera basses sounds amazing and the craftsmanship is the best in world. Therefore no surprise to me about their quality. If you read this and haven’t played a Fodera – You really need to play one to understand all the hype.

I got home from work and plug the bass in. Just before the dinner that future wife and our daughter had made for me because I have been working very much later and they had not been seeing me a whole lot. Well I plug the bass and there was a lot of noise from the bass and I was “Oh no!” I had to have dinner with my family, so we eat and went for a nice walk before my daughter had to go to sleep. The whole time I couldn’t stop thinking about the bass and what I had to do about the noise. Luckily I have more that one Fodera so I open the backcover and looked at the preamp and there I could see a wire was loose. I could compare my Emperor and MG and I could see where the wire had to go and it was easily fixed. I was happy.

Back the MG. I have always love the singlecut design and really don’t know why I didn’t get one sooner. The top is really amazing and very classy. I did go with 16.5 mm spacing at bridge and 33 scale and that’s just perfect for me. I’m glad that I did that. The feel of the bass is awesome and the bass sits very good. The ash neck is great. I actually think that I prefer ash necks on Foderas. The fingerboard is clean without the dots and I think it’s looks awesome. The sound is very warm but still “Jaco punchy “.

People have asked me about the different between my Emperor Elite 5 (Walnut/Alder body, Maple/Ebony) and my MG (Walnut/Alder body, Ash/Ebony.) It might be too early for me to tell that. The Emperor have old D’darrio strings with 0.32 C string and the MG brand Fodera MG signature strings with 0.28 C String. It sound like that the Emperor is more “Tony Grey” sounding with a bit more treble and the MG is more “Janek Gwizdala” sounding with a bit more warm and less high end. Maybe it’s the different between the Maple and Ash neck. The 33 scale makes a big different at the C string. It’s doesn’t sound thin even with a 0.28 gauge! I do prefer 0.30 or greater.

The bass is a bit heavy and it’s weight more than my Emperor which is also chambered. I ask myself if I should have chambered the MG but maybe it that’s the different of the sound on those two basses. As Jason says – It’s all about trades off. I really, really like the sound of the Walnut/Alder/Ash/Ebony combo bass and if that’s the weight. it’s fine with me.

I’m still planning on selling my Emperor 5. The sound and feel is just perfect but 33 scale and 16.5 spacing is just my right specs.

I’m GAS free but I have always Fodera specs in my head.

I ordered the bass from Dave from Ultimate basses (Also got the Emperor from him) and he is great to work with. I have properly sent 100 emails with every bass and every time I got an answer shortly after. I have been driving him crazy and it’s almost sad that we won’t be sending mails no more. Thanks for your time DAVE.

Also a big thank you to Jason which always helps no matter what.

You can’t please everyone but if Fodera should consider doing something I prefer it is:

A Fodera logo bridge to put on their 16.5 mm basses.

Make a C string with 0.30 or 0.32 gauge

Well. That’s about it

I got a bit carried away with my respond compared to what I normally do.
