With Alonso gone, I'm sure Ocon believes he should be the primary driver for the team. Gasly probably feels the same about himself, having once driven for Red Bull. And they're both French, driving for a French marque. It's definitely gonna exciting if Gasly ends up getting the seat, especially with the team turning out a decent car these days.

Having a clear #1 driver has its advantages as the other guy can be the pawn on the board. But it helps if you have a #1 driver that's classy and doesn't mind helping out the #2 driver is huge... and that doesn't always happen!

Personally, I kinda like how Ferrari is doing it with Leclerc and Sainz -- Leclerc is the lead driver but Sainz is also really good and capable of winning races every week. Get a #2 who's gonna push the car and win races, not just fumble around with their thumb up their butt.

Could work one of two ways, as I see it, the antagonism pushes each of the drivers to new levels in trying to out do each other (IMO, this is what happened with Rosberg/Hamilton, although it was unsustainable) or they take each other out in the first lap in several of the first 5 races and things get progressively worse.
That said, these guys are professionals and should be able to make it work. How many of us have to get along with co-workers we don't like that well?

Zhou Guanyu will be back at Alfa Romeo alongside Valteri Bottas in '23. I like this as Zhou has made obvious improvements throughout the year.

Alex Albon will make his return to the track this weekend at Singapore. He was out at Monza due to surgery related to appendicitis with Nyck de Vries subbing in the Williams, finishing an impressive 9th. There was chatter the team would welcome de Vries back, but this won't be the case.

Check out McLaren's new sidepods for Singapore -- they look nearly identical to those on the Red Bull.

Btw, after having a few folks on TalkBass confused my old user name, Low8, with the users lowb, LowB Growl and a few other Low B names, I made a change earlier today to roller. Made a slight change to my avatar, too... but make no mistake -- I'm still me! :D

Checo (Perez) won over the two Ferraris in semi-rainy conditions. It wasn't damp enough for full wets... it wasn't appropriate to run slicks... and inters were only allowing so much racing action. As Brundle noted multiple times, there wasn't a tire available for that kind of precip. And as fascinating as the architecture is in Singapore, they host a lame street circuit. Not a great race whatsoever.

Btw, I hope the rest of you caught the conversation Sky ran with Anthony Davidson and Esteban Ocon about the display and buttons on the Alpine steering wheel = fascinating stuff. Ant asked some great questions and Ocon did a superb job explaining everything. It's nuts to think the drivers are juggling all that button pushing and in a race like yesterday's, they sometimes have to do it in the rain! Crazy cool!

If Sky should post that video, I'll post it if I can find a link.

There were some fun moments and a few good mid field battles..

I think McLaren did a good 1 . 2 punch...and the two Brits driving Mercedes just could not get to the top.
I always enjoy watching the night races...and appreciate how challenging it is on the drivers..They are exhausted in that heat and such a long race with mega eye strain....Tunnels.

Ice bucket bath anyone?

Perez and Leclerc running that close for about 10 laps near the end, at that speed, in those conditions, that late in the day and on that track... was spectacular to watch.

Edit: Hamilton and Verstappen's flubs were fun to watch too!

I respect Russell and the team's call to try to throw slicks on and make up some ground. Didn't work out, but at least they tried.

Not connected to Russell's performance on Sunday... it was a freak race... but I wonder if Toto is wondering about Russell... and thinking about bringing someone else in down the road? I get that Mercedes doesn't have the hot car this season... but Toto is going to need to replace Lewis in a year or two. And if Russell doesn't pan out, he may need to find a replacement for him as well.

Still wondering if Lando doesn't end up over there???? :cool:

It's official -- Gasly to Alpine for '23 and beyond.

Still up in the air for Mick and Ricciardo. Haas and Williams both have open seats. Guenther says he's done with rookie drivers.
