Do you combine it with the FI? I like the filters in the fi but id love to hear what that sounds like.

I haven’t really spent much time combining anything with the FI other then delay. There are so many presets to work through
Just unboxed and auditioned the 99 patches...wow! Quite a bit of useful stuff in there...quite a bit of nonsense and repetition but of 99 at least a 3rd of them had me stopping and grooving and exploring what the patch was all about. I also noticed some of the magic comes out when you REALLY drive it.
Although I am not immediately sold that the sounds are crazier than the Matryoshka I was pretty floored by the variety and the fact that these sounds are all processed from a bass. Can’t wait to dig in on all the user presets and learn the editor...seems like a big investment but worthwhile. Any advice for a n00b with this beast?

Yeah I know what you mean. I put all of my favorite patches in the first 1-8. I've used it enough to know what each of those sound like. I haven't used my FI for solos yet. But something I want to work towards. So many inspirational sounds.
The best advice I can think of for you is go over to the FI patch sharing thread. On page one is a link to a drive with hundreds of custom made FI patches by people who are a lot better at synth programming that I am. Or most other bass players.
I’ve been wanting a matryoshka to try out but the huge advantage the FI has over it is presets.

The patches I mostly use all come from the shared folder. Not sure if I even use any of the original/unedited patches. Such a great resource and really great of everyone to so openly share.
Second best thing I would say is to learn basic synthesis if you have any time to do so. It changes everything because suddenly you can take existing patches and make them exactly what you want. You can also start from scratch and build sounds you want in minutes.
FYI sometimes the link on Part 1 gets an error. Just try again and you should eventually get there. If its something you're really interested in I would suggest downloading the videos to your computer just in case they get removed at some point.
Started part 1 and seemed like I needed to get more into part 2 based on previous experience and studies around midi and the like.
Super informative but even more dry. I got 24 mins in before I had to quit for the day or give in to passing out watching youtube.
Great rec though. Loving this pedal so far, but taking this to the level of the vision that brought me to it is a big investment. Started exploring everyones patches and WOW!!!
Lol. Yeah it’s definitely not Spielberg and definitely corny too! But it’s a good introduction for people who have no background in synthesis.
I am really floored by the quality of the library of user submitted stuff. As I was going through the patches, I was starring the ones I liked and it wasn't before long that I found I was starring just about every patch. Incredible work...as with most great things, it is the community that really makes this pedal something special. I hope to create a patch or two that will eventually be commonplace on everyone's FImpact
Ok, so I brought out my board to a jam last night with both the Future Impact and the Matryoshka...and even a Pigtronix Mothership2 (w expression pedal) and it was Future Impact the entire time. I clicked on distortion once or twice to sharpen a FI patch here and there, and I went to my octave a few times...but it was all about the Future Impact. I made a listing of my favorite patches (39 in total) to reference and I used about 10 of them throughout the jam and they were all perfection. There was no need for anything else. In that way the Matryoshka was outshined.
I had such a breadth of sounds to work with that things never got boring and each new sound was a delight to the other guys I jam with. The only issue was navigating between patches is really clunky and easy to click past what you are looking for...that and referencing my cheat sheet to find a sound took me out of the moment quite a bit. I feel that once I set up my sound banks in a way that makes it intuitive for me, this thing is gonna be a game changer for me.

It just takes a little time. You are still in overthinking mode it appears. That will settle after a while and things will smooth out. Enjoy!
