Future Impact now available!! WAS: deep impact reissue!!! interested?

I own the FI and other SA pedals but not the C4. I intend to buy the C4 later this year.

So with that limited context, I agree with basically all of this. It's a great summary. The only thing I might quibble with is that for my own setup it's not a big deal that there isn't PC for the C4. The CC system works quite well on my Nemesis, with the added advantage that one of the CCs is "load preset engaged" and the other CC is "load preset bypassed." I realize this will not necessarily be the case for the setups (particularly MIDI controllers) of others.

You can use PC if you're capable of using the USB (aka you have something that will act as a host. My DMC3 will do it, but due to my placement of the DMC and my setup I'd rather just have a good small host. SA is threatening updates to the hub that will allow for PC, but it's not there yet.

Right. The point is, for me, being able to pass CC to the C4 to change presets will work just fine for me, the lack of PC isn't a negative.

Yep. And for my use of the Boss ES-5 it will work just fine. It just won't work for my DMC3. I use the ES-5 as my patch programmer/selector but the DMC as a scroller/on-the-fly selector.

In my humble opinion there are not too many users who would use the pedal this way, switching the mode between songs. The other thing is that I have a doubt that the same amplifier, mixer channel for bass and guitar is a good idea at all. In a pro setup it is two amps (or two mixer channels) and two FI pedals.
Synth pedals are not the most mainstream type of pedal, and my guess is that a notable group of players using the FI are also not the most mainstream bunch ;-) So switching between different instruments during a show, having very particular setups etc. doesn’t seem too far out to me.

In my setup, pedals are shared between three signal paths (bass, synth, guitar) each going to separate outputs. That really simplifies thing for me and brings down weight and cost of gear.

Just broadening the picture here, thanks for offering your perspective :-)

Managed to tear myself away from manual writing and try some patch writing. A new feature that just got implemented a few days ago as part of the flexis has helped me to nail something I was trying earlier with only partial success.

Behold - a pad sound that switches between rootless voicings of m7b5, m7, 7 and Maj7 chords via the expression pedal. I’ve even managed to get the ninth to move down to the octave for the m75 voicing to give the typical voicing for that chord.

These new features really are amazing.

Your synth programming skills are amazing. I'm a complete neophyte so I rely on pros like you contributing shared presets. They just keep getting better!

I am still struggling w the MIDI implementation. Looking through the guide I can only find a handful of commands. PCs seem to be preset # +1...on and off work fine but how do you commit a patch when decrementing w CC 67? I tried CC 66 (>64) but that didnt work. I also see reference to program up command but couldnt find the CC for this. I feel like there is a table in the documentation or something that I am just not seeing? I found 7 total CC's listed in the guides and a mention of PCs to set presets.

Did anyone ever answer this? I was hoping to find a way, through MIDI, to scroll up and down through patches, and turn the pedal on and off as needed. I also get CC# 67 to scroll down, but it's only through one bank, and I cannot confirm the patch. If it's not possible, that's cool, just curious.

My EBS is on the older end...Ive had it on my board for ages. I have been tempted to try others but I love it so much and it sounds great (it adds a hint of color to my tone as well). It evens out my playing and notes track awesome w the future impact. I am very happy w that part of my setup and would recommend it.

I have also been experimenting w adding my ampeg octave after the FI and it sounds killer w the synth over the top.

Is anyone having success sending CC values w expression? That's my next step but first want to get the basics working w my ES-8. Currently I send a PC followed by the on CC to trigger patches directly...I can get it to scroll backwards but not commit the change.

I presume you’re in the default patch selection mode, the one where you select the patch and then press the other switch to engage it.

Instead try switching to DIRECT patch selection mode via the boot menu. Then any patch command you send will engage it directly.

I've regressed. I cannot get my FI to connect to a computer. I just got a Roland UM-One midi adapter and with a windows 10 laptop I just cannot connect to edit patches or upgrade. I am able to play the keyboard on the editor and get it to ring notes in the FI when connected, but something is up. Not sure when I last was successful and there have been some changes in my setup that could be the culprit:
- laptop is now windows 10, used to be windows 8 (have never successfully connected to windows 10 - yet)
- I did a rehouse to the smaller 3d printed enclosure. I cannot remember if I connected to the editor since the re-house, I am pretty sure I did, but not totally sure

Anyone know a way to do a factory reset? Or any other tests to run to see if I am connecting or where my issue is? I'm tempted to bring it to a friends to try and upgrade without having to use my laptop as that may be the culprit?

Is the UM One set to PC with the little switch?
Have you selected the UM-One as the “output device” and the “FI input device” in the midi preferences of the editor?

Heads up to those of us who have a MIDI controller with the capablity-

With the MC6, there are MIDI commands called PC Scroll Up and PC Scroll Down. I am able to use these to go up and down, patch by patch, on the FI. I have another button dedicated to turning the pedal on and off, if necessary. I'd like to also be able to scroll up and down by bank, but haven't figured out if that's possible just yet.

Not sure on the little switch...this is the first I'm even hearing of a little switch?!?!?!?! Will investigate later. If you just solved this, I'm buying you a beer

I must have missed when this was originally posted, thanks for the repost.

I'm curious about other commands though... I asked a while back (both here on TB in #4586 and directly with Panda via email) about commands for Program Up, Bank Up, and Bank Down and never got a response. Are you able to comment about whether or not these or any other new MIDI commands will be added in the update?

As far as I know, there is no CC for bank up or down. At least not in the manual I’m translating. Not really needed as you could just send PC messages to jump straight to the patch.

There is at least one new CC command.

Yep. This what I did when I programmed a few ES-5 patches. Worked just fine.
