Same here at Casa Nedmundo. I mostly play two of my J basses--a 2003 Fender four and Sandberg TT-5--but otherwise it's almost always the M-2500. My SB-2 comes out occasionally, but I gravitate much more toward my J basses and the mighty M.
My current bandmates gravitate towards the M as well. They're repeatedly said how much they like the tone, with one guitarist saying it has lots of "focus." It sure does. And, after hearing the M for the first time, the drummer asked why I don't play it all the time. (Hint: My Sandberg also sounds great and has similar playability, and weighs only 6.6 lbs.!)
Hey Tony! Long time man, hope you're well and you and yours have a great Thanksgiving! M-2500, awesome! I love mine, and that Qtr sawn neck, just so solid. Oh, and if you didn't already get it, ask Steve about the .675 neck pocket, have it on mine.

Hey Rimas, how are you my friend. I chose the basic and Steve is handing the rest. I really want to make the M workhouses for me. I will most likely be shooting a video for them at NAMM. Will I see you at the show? I'm working the GK booth. I'm writing music for the food network and really need a Jack of all trades. If this does everything I want I see at least 1 more in different tuneing.
Hey folks. Sorry if this question has been answered but I just pulled the trigger on a G&L Jazz bass fullerton. 4 string. Instead of regular single coil they have the MFD pickups. Could someone give me an idea on tonal differences? I can't find any videos with the single coil mfd. Thanks in advance for your help.
That's a brand new offering from G&L, so there are probably no youTube video reviews of it. Maybe at glguitars.com they'd have something.
Not exactly your model, it seems to be custom shop or an artist's model.

Thank you guys for the responses. It does seem like the one video has a jazz bass with the new pickups. I guess I might just have to see how they go. I was really wanting a more traditional pickup(whatever that means) but I don't even know how thoese new mfd single coils sound yet. There's very little playing the video. So we'll see. I've been wanting a 4 banger for a while and I'm a sucker for a matching headstock.
Edit after listening to the video again with better speakers - I would still prefer the video show more distinct tonal varieties. However, I do have a better idea of how the pickup can sound. It seems that it can get very clear, clean, and detailed with the tone knob rolled on.

Now the issue is as follows: are the Pancho Tomaselli's JB MFD pickups designed by 'Dr. JOHN' really the same as those on the regular Fullerton model as proposed by SW?
MFD pickups will most likely sound fuller with a bit more bass and mids than a tradidtional Jazz pickups from G&L. And most likely have a stonger signal output. Both good things IMO.
I have the tradidtional JB with alnico pickups and they sound good, but they are sharp sounding to my ears and it's the weakest signal output of any of my basses.

This is an accurate description. I actually have a JB4 MFD , and regular JB4 's .
Thank you for the responses. They've been helpful. I just stopped by the local guitar center and they had a GL JB tribute. It had a beefy neck.
Do the JB tribute necks have similar shapes to the Fullerton JB basses? On the site they say medium C. The tribute I played was thicker as opposed to a thinner more modern shaping.

I have a Fullerton Deluxe JB, it has a 1 1/2" width at the nut with a G&L medium C shape, 9 1/2" radius. The G&L website says the Tribute JBs have a 12" radius but also 1 1/2" nut medium C neck. I wouldn't necessarily call their medium C necks beefy. I don't have a problem with my JB's neck at all.
Just noticed they have currently dropped the price on this one.

Anyone have or know where to get the 4 string bridge side set screw? Just looked at my '84 and it somehow disappeared.
They are available in their online store, but you do have to buy a few…

Well, it is pointed downwards
. The tiniest drop of Loctite or nail polish should prevent that. Of course, if you read this thread long enough, you'll hear from several owners who don't feel that missing the screw made any difference in tone or performance. I dunno…
