G&l made a hollowbody jazz?

what is the model name!!!!!

They did a few hollow prototypes at one point of contoured bodies - L-2000 and JB-2 basses. Never scaled into production. I remember that JB-2 on eBay back years ago. I'd have bought it, but I was in a "hate J basses" phase at the time.

Yep - it was one of the hollowbody prototypes that I was able to pick up and try out. Looked great, loved the F-hole, sounded exactly like every other JB-2 I ever picked up. G&L sells at least some of their prototypes when they are done with them so there are some interesting one-offs floating around out there.

Unfortunately they never made, or I never saw evidence of, a semihollow SB-1 or SB-2. Just L2K/L2.5K and JB2 (IIRC one of those was fretless, maybe an L2.5K). Apparently they didn't think enough of them to put them in production.

This '95 SB-1 finish has me mystified. I've seen it a couple times before, no clue as to the official name. It's not Cherryburst, nor does it look like Honeyburst. It's more like a Sienna burst. I think I may have heard it referred to as Western Burst somewhere, dunno....

I believe Fender calls it tobacco sunburst. Not sure about G&L.

I have a cherryburst L-2500 and that one's not a cherryburst. I also have a honeyburst Stingray and your bass looks a lot like it, although I thought the G&L honeyburst was lighter than and different from the Musicman honeyburst. Not sure which burst that is.

But I love it.

Are tribute owners allowed to join the club, or do they have a club of their owner?

Here is my recently acquired G&L Tribute M-2000 GTS. The EQ is great and easy to dial in the tone. Fit and finish are nice. It was a closeout deal on Reverb. I guess they discontinued the finish and banding style. They had them in white too. But it was about 1/3 off the going price on of the non close out models.

Took awhile to find them Blackrider vintage guitar, two of them didn't have the screw, was kinda po'd about it, but they are just right

I got mine a couple of weeks ago. I was looking for a deal on a Tribute JB-2 but was hard to pass on the M-2000 for about the same price. But the shop that I bought mine from on Reverb has them for an additional 15% off with the current sale. That would have taken it down to about $425. Great bass for the money!!

Now that I think about it, there have been some posts on G&L's Facebook page about acquiring a vintage Twokay and doing some control plate milling, so yeah, that's a likely possibility.

A pleasant surprise... But now that a full-on 80s reissue is out, are actual 80s basses desirable anymore?
