I like them all, personally. My point is that an L150X will never catch that "sunburst with tort" vibe (for those who like that sort of thing), and you're right, that's due to the pickguard. So what's different about the Kiloton neck specs vs. the 1505? Headstock aside, I thought they were the same. ...

Nut width is wider on the Kiloton/JB5 than the L/M-series nuts.
The 3+2 is listed with 12" radius and 1-3/4" width.
The Kilo5 is listed with 9.5" radius and 1-7/8" width.
From what I've seen, there are no options to switch either.
You can order either radius on either neck, as far as I know. That has always been the case, unless they changed it. The 1-7/8" with only comes on the 4+1 headstock and the 1-3/4" only comes on the 3+2.
Personally, I'd be ALL OVER a 1-7/8" 3+2 with a 12" radius on an L2500...
I had a few minutes to spare on my lunch break today so I tried out a USA Kiloton 5. I mainly wanted to see how the neck felt. I'm a 1-1/2 jazz nut guy for the most part but I liked the 1-7/8 on the K5. I was actually surprised by how comfortable it was. Somewhat chunky front to back but it filled the left hand nicely. When I have a little more time, maybe today after work

I hope I'm not speaking sacrilege here, but I'm not crazy about the knob-switch-knob layout. I think I would prefer a switch-knob-knob layout. I wonder if one could make the switch work in one of the knob holes.
I bought an SB-2 late last year and followed it up with a kiloton 1.5 months later (both 4 string). I love the neck, body style, weight and balance of the SB-2 and Kiloton and have all I need in basses now except for a good light weight jazz. I have a Squier VM 70's jazz but it's not light so I'll be trading that jazz for a lighter one. But for most gigging I'm doing now the 2 G&L's cover my basses - GREAT Instruments!!
The G&L dealer near me also has a USA JB5 in empress thats 8 lb. Didnt get a chance to play it but picking it up was freaky. It had some nice looking grain too. G&L is doing some cool things these days!
I think we are currently in the G&L Golden Age right now. They are doing it underneath the radar too but they are coming up with some great new products and putting out some finely crafted instruments. I think G&L is and will always be a players brand. A guitar company for folks who care more about tone and playability than brand recognition and image.

The Kiloton 5 and JB5 are available with 12" radii, but the 3+2 necks on the L-2500 and M-2500 are 12" only. The current specs and options are posted in the "knowledgebase" section of guitarsbyleo.com, which is a great resource.
dialed in the new l2k today, and although i do miss the little bit more old school warmth i had with the 83, the 2016 is way way easier to play and weighs quite a bit less

G&L L-1000 1981 I restored the paint is the only thing that is not original.
G&L L-2500 original from 1998.
Played my L1505 this morning for the Easter Sunday service. That bass never ceases to amaze me.

I too played my L1500 for Easter services. I always get complemented on the tone .
My MD at church has indicated that of all the basses I have, its her favorite one for me to play. It took me a while to learn just how varied in tone you can get out of it, its pretty amazing for a single bridge pickup and a 2 band preamp.
