Genz Benz Shuttle 9.0 discussion thread

My comment goes back to the discussion of fitting a shuttlemax channel into a 9.0 chassis, ditching the variable tone shaping filters takes away a feature that many folks really like and use regularly. Of course there are some nfolks who don't use them, but an amp must be as useful as possible to as many potential users as possible.

I agree with this 100 percent.

You definitely could not please us all but I see you try to give the most usable features you can to us all.

I look forward to getting my hands on a Shuttle 9.0

I'm thinking the 9.0 will be the end of the line for me. I just hope the funds will work out for me soon.

On a different subject (if I may derail for one second). Had an all Music weekend last weekend. This week end I'm chilling. At some point I have to get down in my Studio and put it back together. It's a disaster.

Anyway I'm trying out some of these new High Octane Beers a friend suggested. Has anyone tried them? I'm drinking Golden Monkey and man doe these things have a kick with not a lot of trips to the whizzer.

Yes, if there was a feature I had to give up to get the chasis, it would be those 3 switches. Quick poll : How many users actually use those things ?

I don't think those are that critical but it is asking a lot I think to get them to do everything each individual would want.

So.... price, size, volume, features, and tone ratio.... the Shuttle 9.0 is probably the finest micro on the market right now.

I don't use the 3 filters on my shuttle 6.0 because I've found them to be too extreme for my taste. Now, if they could be variable via a mini-screw inside the chasis, THAT would be incredible! Just dreaming...but I'm sure agedhorse could do it...

I have used the filters (fixed on my 3.0 combo) a number of times. I find I mostly use the Low, but have used all 3 at one time or another.

I think a Shuttle Max 9.0 would be the cat's meow. 500 watts @ 8 ohm, 900 @ 4 ohm, FET/Tube preamps, dual para-mids on each channel, blend, variable filters, effects loops, great DI, etc. etc. That would be an amp.

I use the high frequency attack button on my 6.0 as a "string life extender." Gives a little more use out of my dead strings when I'm too lazy to change them.

Now that I have a stack of decent, but mid-present cabs, I'm playing with the LF extend button to fill out the low end without cranking the bass EQ knob. I'm not decided on using it regularly yet, but it's a useful extra dimension to the tonal options from GB, even without the variability offered by the Max series.

I appreciate the thread. I am looking for a smoother thicker sound than I got from my 6.0 I had, which was my first micro.
OK, so I just ordered my 9.0. I have been on this micro quest for some time for my light duty rig. I have been through 4 different MB amps including the LMT800. I am still looking for a warm smooth fast and beefy micro to use with one of my 4 ohm UL2-410 or a pair of Eden 210XLT 8 ohm cabs. Primarily for use with one Epi though. That will cover 75-85% of my gigs.
A lightweight uber 610 would be very nice also.

I do too.. its may be wierd but i will at times push the LF button in and then roll the Bass knob back ever so slightly.... dont ask me why but it does something and i sort of dig it.. sort of adds more subs sut not higher bass.. or maybe its my imagination.. i dont know but it works for me

I've not tried the Shuttle 9.0, but hopefully that will do it for you. If not, and since you tried those Markbass head in an attempt to find something warmer and beefier than the Shuttle, and they didn't do it either, you really should check out the TC Electronic RH450 or the Classic 450. It's exactly what you are describing. Then they have the Staccato '51, which is a Rocco Prestia signature head. Basically it's an RH450 with a different voicing, and a tweaked compressor and tubetone circuit. I've not heard it in person, but those who have say it's a VERY beefy sounding amp, even more so than the RH450.

I don't think I ever used the scoop or HF Attack for anything other than playing around. I did use the LF Extensions a few times at some outdoor gigs where I wanted more bottom. I can see how some folks would really like those switches as they do provide a quick way to change the starting point that you can continue to tweak with the EQ after engaging them.

Really though, they aren't that unusual and I've never understood why folks make a big deal about them either way. Lots of heads have bass/treble boost switches of some sort, either by pulling out a knob or something else. And a scoop button is pretty normal. I definitely liked the switches on my GBE much better since they had knobs to control the depth of the switch, but even then I prefer to sculpt the tone with EQ rather than a switch most of the time.

The RH450 has more output than the Shuttle 6.0 or the LMII/III. My only advice is to read the review, and not let the power ratings between manufacturers prevent you from investigating those heads. I'm guessing the RH450 very closely approaches if not equals the output of the Shuttle 9.0 based on my direct gigging experience with 4 different Genz Benz heads. It's also on par with the output of the LMT800.

I use them too to adjust to the room I'm in, volume we're playing at, etc... probably dont use them 60% of the time, but the other 40%.... makes a huge difference.

I always had the back and forth of my 6.0 to the GBE1200. There was just no comparison in the girth of setting as 1200 on a single 112 neox and letting the music be big & full & rich. The 6.0 left me wanting at times and there was that "do I haul to 40 lb 1200 and get all the best, or use the 6.0 and have almost all of it??" With the 9.0 the conflict is gone... The big and bad is joined by the small and light and man am I glad the Genz Guyz came up with this one. The 6.0 met most of my needs, but that bit of additional headroom and the lower bass filtering put in what I wanted.
For the NeoPak 3.5 guys... that amp was my introduction to Genz. I HAD to have more than 350 watts with a 7 piece horn band, and the 2 ohm mod came in and almost cured all the G.A.S. for power and the sound was awesome. The difference between the 350 and 500 watts in the Neo-Pak, and the 500 watt Neo-Pak is the same 'jump' as the Neo-Pak to 9.0.

I had the Classic and it is a loud head. Ironically i sent it back and am awaiting my 9.0

I think that would be a cool thing for some rock guys as a bridge between led sleds and the micros... for me, im very happy with the tonality of the 9.0 simply for the size/weight issue.. it goes in my gig bag for gods sake...... I still dig the 1200 but i dont need it right now and the shuttle12 and 9 do all my work for me..

I think that would be a cool thing for some rock guys...

I LOVED my Neo-pak. It just seemed to be so warm sounding. I actually think that the lower power rating of the Neo-pak, combined with the output limiter on the Genz heads, is what made it so nice. I wound up having to push it hard more often and it just opened up the character more. I don't know really, but it was just wonderful. Everytime I see one up for sale here I'm tempted to grab it. Wonderful, wonderful head!
