I only played a NEOpak in a store a few years ago.. I was very suprized at how big ot sounded back then. .That was at the beginning of the lightweight era in a way.. Me being mr skeptical bought the gbe1200 instead....
Now look,, im sporting a shuttle 12.0 and 9.0.. boy times have changed.... I NEVER thought that I would be the one to use a lightweight amp Ever...

Since the mid 70s i only used preamps/poweramp rigs, from BGWs to Crowns and Crests.. all huge boat anchors...
And im real happy now...

I went from an Eden WT800B to a Shuttle 6.0, then to a Shuttle 12.0 Max with my Epifani UL2-410 cab. Wonderful sound, but I wanted to check the Genz Benz cabs out so I did an A/B/C test with the Max 12.0 through Epi UL-410, Berg AE-410, and Uber 212T cabs. All 3 were very good but different. I didn't think I'd ever trade a 410 for a 212 but the Uber 212 just had this beefy, burly sound to it which just nailed what I was after. The 12.0 really has the total package for me but I'm planning on getting a Shuttle 9.0 as a backup and to use with my Berg HT322.

If I could have one wish list item for the 9.0 it would be to have the tube/FET option. This is the single feature which would bridge the gap for a lot of players out there. Hopefully, keeping the same panel layout but adding only one small button would minimize impact to the existing design. A 4-button footswitch with tube/FET, LF boost, Mid cut, and HF boost would be a killer addition to an already stellar product. I find the footswitch very useful with my Shuttle 12.0. Keep up the good work GB!

Had an all day session/studio video shoot yesterday.

If I really had a wish, I don't think I would want a TRUE Max 9.0 as I don't really want the head to be that large with the dual channels. Just a single-channel tube pre with 4 semi-parametric EQ controls and no global filters. That would keep the head smaller and make it wonderful! :D

Great pic. Do you go from the Ditto to the 9.0? I have debated a Tube DI to use in front of my 3.0 combo, but the DI on the Shuttle is so good I haven't been able to justify it.

It is as long as you pay attention to your ears and dont go completely crazy!! I have run a GBE1200 into a 112 Neox..... thois cab responds well and opens up nicely to power.... just dont push it to the point it starts distorting, or you will be in trouble.

Just use your ears. If it sounds like it's being blown to bits, well, stop doing that!!
I'd run any high wattage amp into my 112. Just watch what you are doing.

I split the signal for sessions.
One goes thru the DI and one comes from the amp if I bring one.
This particular session I did.
I haven't done it yet with the 9.0, but I ran the DI as my front end. Bypassing the pre-amp all together, From my DI into the return.

I may try it this weekend.

Mike... the reason for the caution is because some folks just have a higher expectation of what a small 112 cabinet can be expected to deliver and ask more from it without realizing it. This is especially true with low frequency eq boost and then slapping, there's enough power in a 9.0 to overpower most 112 cabinets on the market in the extreme low end, and we really don't want customers damaging their speakers if we can help by offering a little caution and common sense.

I agree.
I just assume that people will understand exactly what cabs will do.
No matter the power, a 112 will only go so loud.

This might have been missed. On the 6.0, some passive instruments might have had difficulty really pushing the tube pre into overdrive. I know some people were disappointed in this, and I believe the gain stage has been changed on the MAX and 9.0 heads (if I recall correctly) to accomodate those folks wishes.

Can someone with a 9.0 verify this?

There is more overall gain on the 9.0 because there is more power, but the preamp gain levels are quite similar between the 6.0 and 9.0.

IF you want real overdrive with low output passive pickups (not all passives are low output BTW) then a small preamp or boost pedal might be desireable. That said, most basses have no problem getting a mild to medium overdrive on either amps. For heavier overdrive, the ShuttleMax has an added gain stage, but this gets deeper into overdrive territory with most basses and may not be what everyone desires so it's switchable out of the signal path.

Thanks for all the explanations in this thread. I won't be buying mine for a few weeks yet but a Shuttle 9.0 will be my next amp. :bassist:

Well, my 9.0 arrived today. I set it on top my LMT800 and have been playing both of them for the last hour and a half with my passive PJ. The GB is definitely more organic sounding, smoother. Finger style tones just bark and there is significantly more low end than the 6.0. What I don't like is that I have to turn the volume to 9 or 10 with the gain at 6 to drive the signal right (this is not good IMO). The LMT800 is much faster responding and much louder, with the whump factor clearly to the LMT800. But this is not to say either sounds better than the other, right now I can just say different. Now I'll try some active basses and see how they respond. The real test will be this weekend when I take both to an outdoor gig that will push them, I'll be playing through an Epi UL2-410 4 ohm.
