Hey Tunamelt; :smug: One UL410 cab and the 900 + Am St P5 w/flats, was a horrible gig at a large club. All mud, no mids or clarity at all, whew, long nite.

One of the best sounding gigs I've had so far is with my GB STM 900 and two, 8 ohm UL410-II cabs.

I think the difference with the two cabs was that I used my 55-02D w/DR BB's. Both gigs were with a "new country" band I help out now n then. The single UL cab gig was so bad I had the 900 bass knob down to 8:00 or so and still could not get a good tone.

With the two UL cabs+55-02D and same band, I had a great tone and so much control of my mids n lows. Coulda been the room, coulda been the bass but it worked. No PA support for me ever. :mad:

I'm gonna try the same two cabs; maybe a Jazz 5er or the P5 at a large room gig next weekend. I'll bring along my Eden WTDI pedal to use the STM 900 as a power amp if I can't fix the mud issue. Just saying, I like to use my UL cabs but not with this head so I'm doing trial n error kinda thing. Carry on to OT y'all.

ErnieD: I've found that getting Epifanis up & by your ear make a HUGE difference in your ability to hear the mids, and it does sound a lot better for sure... the problem I think, is that proves how little the mids project outta those cabs, maybe. Honestly I wish you could try more grindy cabs like Berg AEs & GK NEOs. Use a wireless & walk around the room, off center, all over the place & see whats projecting for both.

I love the Epifani cabs... with the right amp. The Shuttlemax 12.0 really makes those bad boys shine.

Yeah of all my cabs the STM-900 does not play well with mid-less cabs. I usually use the Epi's, 1 or 2 of them, for a disco/soul band or country band I gig with. The Epi's with 55-02D and either my Markbass F1 or BBE pre/Crown amp just works real nice in that context.

For my regular blues-rock band the 900 with either a GB Neox 212T, or a TB153 or 2xRS210's does the trick.

At my next country gig in a very large, hanger-like bar, I may use the two Epi's again but will run my Eden WTDI into effects as a pre and the GB as my power amp. I think it'll make those cabs sing again. In 3-4 different bands, I do get use outta my different rigs. It's fun for me to experiment like this. Gotta use it or lose it, gear-wise, momma said. :p

Acoustics aren't always your friend...

I did an "unplugged"-style duo in a nursing home cafeteria this week, with plate glass windows down one side, low ceiling, all hard surfaces and poor proportions.

I knew better than to take the SL900, but even with a bright, grindy bass with roundwounds, a G-K head and a mid-forward cab, I was getting nothing but mud.

Sometimes, you've just got to grin and bear it.

How do yo ulike the 900 w the NEOX212T? I have a 600 with the NEOX212T and have been thinking of grabbing a 900. I would like a tab more power and even though the cab is a 600w cab with 900 running through I think I might get a little more punch and control out of it.

ernieD: I like it fine, usually use my Am St P5 w/Chromes. Its a very powerful sounding rig; and I get no PA support and only use 5ers. This cab sounds good when it's pushed but I've never bottomed it out even with the 900. I used to use either a LMII or F1 with this cab before the 900. I'm at about the same volume but a surely different tone.

You having the 600 and a 212T already, I don't imagine you wouldn't like the 900. Not really sure you'd need it though. I do push this rig hard at times but I'm pretty careful not to kill it with lows n alota volume. I've had the bass knob on the 900 at 12:00-1:00 and it just sings. I'd imagine I coulda got away with a 600 myself with this cab. I just found a great deal on a new 900 so I jumped on it.

Do you have to crank your 600 now? Otherwise, I think your fine with your current setup. But far be it from me to stop anybody else's GAS. :bassist: ;)

Ok, sounds about what I expected. The volume is at 1 o'clock on master and pre. I was running the gain at 1 as well but didn't realize that my tone with one of my hot basses was a little overdriven. I play early reggae and not the ideal tone. I dialed it back to noon and it's perfect warm, buttery and fat. 95% of the time I have PA support so I'm good. I was thinking of grabbing the 900 ad I found a good deal and keeping the 600 as backup. None the less I love this setup.

Just got my Streamliner STM-600 Friday. Really liking it so far. Not a big deal but noticed when using it without a cab with just Headphones I get a "static electricity like" crackle when it touch the string on my Fender American Special Jazz Bass. Like I said it is "small potatoes" but just curious if others have this happen too?

This is an update for Agedhorse, JohnK_10 and others who worked with me on my problem.

I finally got my bass cab modification completed after a week and plugged the Streamliner 600 into it and played my Jazz bass through it. I was horrified at the pretty loud buzz and crackling when I touched the strings. Changed from Planet waves cable to Mogami, quieter but still pretty stout. I then hooked my GK 700rbII up and it was quieter but still audible but no where near the level with the GB. I turned everything off and left the room with the thought "This is going back". A couple hours later I realized I have been connected to the mult extension plug that was connected to the same wall outlet as the computer system and in addition I realized I was using the heavier GK Power cord so I brought in a different multi gang extension cable (with 4ft power cord) and plugged it across the room to the outlet I normally use. I then hooked the Streamliner up (with it's stock power cord), plugged the bass in, gritted my teeth and flipped the power switch and waited for it to come on while looking at the computer. When it finally timed out after 20 seconds it was super quiet. You can only imagine the smile that came across my face.
So, JohnK_10 and agedhorse called it correct. It was a grounding problem to the wall outlet.:hyper::hyper::hyper::hyper::hyper::hyper::hyper:

BTW: I now have to play "lightly". Between the modified cab and the streamliner it is way too easy to shake the walls around here.

With the right 15s, not only will a 215 be louder (MUCH) than a 410, it will be louder than an 810.

Would you say this is true with the Uber 115's specifically? As far as being louder than some 810's out there.

Troubleshooting Streamliner 900

Trying to figure this out on a gig before heading out on the road in the morning for 5 nights..any suggestions appreciated!

Short story: the volume of my Streamliner running into my uber quad 1288 is about 1/4 of what it was when I used it at two different gigs yesterday.

Tried: different basses, cords, batteries

?! Puzzled. Could it possibly have to do with the preamp tubes?

it most definitely could, and i would say that it's probable.

This.

The first rule of diagnostics, is do the simplest/fastest/safest tests first. A while back, agedhorse helped someone fix a stuck contact in an effects loop jack, by having them plug in and out a few times. No cost, no postage, no waiting.

A volume drop that drastic isn't likely to be as simple as a bad tube or a bad normal on the effects loop jacks.

But it could be, and plugging your bass direct into the effects return is a real quick check. You should be able to get a fairly decent level (not full blast, for sure, but pretty loud with the master cranked).

If you don't, then it's probably the power stage of your amp, or the speaker cab.

If you have a set of headphones on a 1/4" adapter, you could also plug into the front, and check the headphone output. Ditto for checking the DI output, if you have something else with an XLR input to use as a playback system.

Update: It was the tube/s. pulled the hood after trying some of those other options. Put in V1- GE 5751, V2- RCA 7025 & V3- RCA 7025. All is well! In fact, sounds better with the tube mod!

I'll be contacting Jeff here in abit as this was a brand new manufactured in 5/12 head and I had it for less than two weeks.
