Genz Benz Streamliner-Pt 2

Cool, I'll look forward to your review then. Based on what I've been reading here it may be that the Streamliner gives us more of what we like about the Shuttle 9.0.

Review to come as soon as I get it. Hurry Genz/Rocket/UPS!!!!!!!!!:D

I am in great anticipation as what this baby will sound/feel like as opposed to my Shuttle 9.0.

If for some reason it's so good it becomes a first to my 9.0 at that point the 9.0 could become my rehearsal space amp. So no great loss there. I have absolutely no plans on flipping my 9.0.

I KNOW that I will get a Streamliner 900...I just don't know when...sigh...the Shuttle 9.0 has been such a winner...way more than I had expected...the capability of using the Streamliner/9.0 for large gigs, driving four of my GS112s is enough to get me to thin the heard for this new GB head...I am moving towards GB exclusivity and it is a wonderful thing...

Dang, these threads - part 1 and part 2 - have been the equivalent of my birth family's long drives to Florida. Such goofball banter to pass the time while us kids are waiting! Heavens - :rollno:

Is everyone here that is planning to buy a Streamliner going for the 900? I didn't realize until visiting the GB website that there was a 600 as well. I have had both the Shuttle 6.0 and the 9.0, and have not needed the extra wattage that I currently have with the 9.0, so I'm very tempted to go with a 600 and save the $175 difference.

I'm going with the 900. It would be rare these days that I need the 900 watts but the 500 at 8 ohms is just such a sweet pleasure.

I can take one of my little tiny 8 ohm 1x12 Cabs and just pummel. :bassist:

Last year at rehearsal our keyboard player looked over at me with one of those puzzled scratch your head looks and said " man how do you get all that Bass out that one little box?"

I just grinned like a sly little devil. :D

+1 With a five-string, and EQ that favors bass and low-mids, 500 watts into an 8-Ohm load should satisfy most of my needs.

I'm waiting for GB to announce a two-channel version, like the ShuttleMax 12.0, with the Streamliner mated to a solid state 9.0; dual mono, 2x500w @8Ohms, 2Ohm capable, bridgeable @4Ohms, with bi-amp capability, and footwsitch control;
6 pounds! :hiding:

I wonder if GB would comment on any difference between the 600 and 900 in terms of tone if any.

I read in previous threads that the difference between the Shuttle 6 and 9 is (not withstanding the output) that the 9 has a bigger bottom end.

Cheers

Sign me up!

One reason, IMO, is that it gives you the option of really driving a 4 ohm / 500w load while keeping the preamp gain low for a really clean tone, something I do often on my Shuttle 9 (and why I'll go with a STM 900 instead of STM 600).

I wonder why most of the talk in this thread is almost only about the STM900 and not the STM600 (which i will go for) ... how come? 600 not enough power to please you?

Two primary reasons. First, when the amp was announced, only the 900 was mentioned. Second, the difference in cost is minimal (i.e., watts are cheap), and IMO the real strength of the Genz 900 watt amps are their ability to wump hard at 8ohms. For 4ohm operation, the 600 would most likely be more than enough for most, but what the heck, that's what the volume knob is for.

Regarding tone differences, I would think the 600 and 900 would be much more similar than different, versus the rather large differences between the Shuttle 6 and Shuttle 9, due to the Shuttle 6 being voiced to work optimally with the little Shuttle cabs. This would not be the case with the Streamliner, and is not the case with the Max heads.

Not sure of the impact of the new limiter/power management update on the Max 9 and Streamliner versus the earlier Shuttle and Max designs.... the marketing blurbs indicate a bit more girth down low. Cool.

I assume we are within a couple weeks of delivery for those of us who put in prepaid pre orders:bassist:

Like I've said all along, the appeal about the 900 watt power section is the 500 watts at 8 ohms.

The 900 watts at 4 ohms is nice as well, as one can get mega thump from the 9.0. Way more so than any of the other micros. Compare the 9.0 to half a PLX 1804 we are talking apples and apples here (power wise). How do I know? Because I have one. There is definitely 900 watts there and it is a major audible ooomphable difference.

All that gushing aside it can be too much. The power section could easily pop my two little Berg 1x12 cabs. Especially with a 5 string.

If one were planning on running something like two 1x12 Cabs all the time I would think the 600 would be fine for almost all situations. Where the trick comes in is the 900 watt power section is able to push a small cab into an area that small cabs have not been able to go before. The added clean headroom+bottom booty translates into achieving a louder more solid thump with a smaller/lighter cab situation.

I always think back to the time I had to use a 2x18 sub cab with my 9.0 and man was that a major eye opener for what this amp can really do.

I have certainly not heard the Streamliner but I do think it is safe to describe the power section of the 9.0 to what the 900 may sound like. Of coarse it also has this new 3DPM and I'll have to wait till my amp gets hear to know what that sounds like. :hyper:

Gentlemen i am eagerly reading your views and would like to add a different perspective. I just got a GB shuttle 6 and a 4ohm full range cab (TB153). Havent tried it at practice yet, but when i plugged it in i actually had to dial the volume back initially. Im lookin to carry one cab instead of two, so i figured running one cab at 4 ohms would allow the shuttle 6 to give me headroom. Still testing my theory.

+1 The logic of a relatively large 4ohm cab (212, 410, whatever) and an amp that puts out 400-500 watts or so into 4ohms is kind of a 'large gig standard' in my neck of the woods. Very efficient design regarding weight, price, schleppability, volume, etc. Enjoy!

Just going by their current website's info on the amps the 900 has the 'Patent Pending P.H.A.T. topology', while this is not on the 600's page's description.

I would assume that would make some perceived difference in the sound.
