+1 As Red Planet mentions, it is a tube pre, so you will have the tubes in the circuit all the time.
This is why I'm much more eager to hear the Smax-9

This amp is going to be a tube rollers delight.
I have a 1955 Mullard in my Shuttle 9.0 and man does it sound nice.
I recently picked up a few of the modern day Mullards. These are the Blackburn Tech Tubes manufactured in the original Mullard factory. I've not tried them yet (waiting on my Streamliner). Too bad these folks went out of business shortly after they got all the kinks worked out of these tubes. They started shipping them in 09 and went into bankruptcy in 09.
This is what I'll be installing in my Streamliner.

I believe it is safe to assume the input sensitivity is low on the Strealiner since it has the Pad button.
I believe the input sensitivity is just right on the Shuttles. I do agree it has to do with your playing as to what you prefer but I think to set the sensitivity unusually hi (like MB) is to strangle a player and relegate them to keeping the preamp at very low knob settings.
IMO we do not massage the Bass, we play it. The Bass is not some sort of instrument that is played while eating Crumpets and drinking Tea. It is an instrument that the mere thought of playing brings on aggression.
Yes there is nothing better than the finesse of an Upright Bass line on I'd Rather Drink Muddy Water but it is an act of violence to play Caledonia.![]()
Or hang out for an hour, and it will be -10![]()
Front and back
Jared, I think you and I have been drinking from the same well. Don is currently building me a pair of tall 15/6's (with mirror image baffles....cabs will be stackable on their sides if I want to use two cabs), and I like the idea of driving either one cab at 8 ohms or two cabs at 4 ohms with a Streamliner 900.
The deciding factor for me whether to seriously consider purchasing a Streamliner 900 will be based largely on comments by the first group of reviewers (i.e., KenJ and others) as to the amp's tone characteristics....particularly, it's ability to provide thick tube tone ala Walkabout.
because of the more traditional, high voltage, classic multi-stage tube preamp design.
That i think is the key factor.. much looking forward to playing one

What's the size different between the Streamliner and Shuttle? (e.g., Will the Streamliner fit in the Shuttle carry bag?)

Hey Kirk, we're much looking forward to the thoroughly detailed report from NAMM.
Oh crap, you have a gig.

+1 I'm looking forward to the day Ken posts clips of the Streamliner on his Youtube channel. Ken has been amazingly consistent with respect to his sonic preferences, which provides a useful basis for product comparison.
trust me...it's not...No snow here, but it was 27 degrees outside this morning, on the freakin' Gulf Coast! I need to move further south I guess, but that means moving back to South Florida. I'm not sure it's worth that!
The Streamliner is slightly larger.. It will not fit in the Shuttle bag.. I believe there will be a separate bag and it will be rack mountable from what i have heard.
To prevent some adverse or perhaps uninformed speculation, there is complete control over gain structure, you will be able to go from totally clean to overdriven from the front panel (plus of course playing touch/style).
It will also be much more of a tube roller's delight because of the more traditional, high voltage, classic multi-stage tube preamp design. This preamp would have fit in well with the post WW-II tube amp engineers, and is based in part on the substantial cumulative work done by these pioneering engineers (of which my father was one).
I have my badge, my ticket and car rental.. and then i got a session call that i just cant turn down.. its on Friday and Saturday... Unfortunately and fortunately the music scene does not shut down in the rest of the country just for NAMM..
So i have to go make the donuts and cant attend NAMM...![]()
salut to your dad and those other pioneers who made what's doing these days possible! To prevent some adverse or perhaps uninformed speculation, there is complete control over gain structure, you will be able to go from totally clean to overdriven from the front panel (plus of course playing touch/style).
