Genz Benz Streamliner-Pt 2

@Jlepre - It was "A New Day Yesterday". I'm old school Tull.

Yes, I will be reviewing the Shuttle Max 9.2 as well, but right now I'm trying to focus on the Streamliner. I've been doing some reading, comparing specs... that's about as geeky as I get. But I've been hooking up different cabs, trying different basses, one person requested I show some upright...

I tried my two uprights though it, and found the wider low end profile made for a nice round thump. The gut string bass was awesome through it, it gave me the sound I want to hear from an old B-15. I think I'll stick to the Shuttle 6.0 for my jazz gigs though, I like the tamer sub frequency range, I can't get my Eddie Gomez licks to work with that stuff taking up space.

Looking forward to the video! :bassist:

Wow...3 12ax7's

Resent Jeff G my email to him in 2009 asking about his thoughts on the two 12ax7's in my signal path (because I could not let go of my Digitach BP-8).

He said it was not significant to my tone in his opinion.

Now what do we see here?

I guess I was ahead of the curve for 4 years.

My guess is, Jeff was answering a different question that does not relate to the current execution. Putting a tube pre pedal in front of another single tube hybrid is not necessariy anything that will change your life. That is a different thing than using multiple tubes, each controlling a different preamp function (input, EQ, driving the power amp module, etc., etc.).

Correct. Plus....we start talking about and planning for new product lonnnngggg before many people think and before we talk about it in public. That way when we show it, we ship it.

I double on upright and electric and I'm curious how this would work for me. I really like my Headway preamp for my upright sound. Could I run this signal through the Aux In jack of the Streamliner, and then mute the Headway when I playing my bass guitar through the front end of the Streamliner?

I guess I could also use the effect receive loop too. But wouldn't that negate me from using the Streamliners preamp?

I think I'd go with an A/B/Y box.

Correct.

A tube is just another circuit element. How it's used is THE defining factor in how it sounds. Different topologies and functions of each section within the overall circuit defines how the overall amp sounds.

I could design a tube preamp with vanishingly low distortion and flavor using discete op-amp techniques and many tubes but while it may increase tube count, wouldn't contribute much to a desireable flavor for a bass amp.

I picked up a shuttle 3.0-10t combo this weekend, and ended up using the head on top of my Accugroove Tri115L's after my DB750 crapped out on me. I have NEVER heard a SS amp with this amount of clear warmth and quite honestly it was anything but a step down from the Aguilar. This makes me even more excited about the Streamliner!!!

If you really dig the shuttle SS tone (as I do) you may be better off with a Shuttlemax 6,12 or 9.2
Juss sayin'

+1. I love the Shuttle's sound but am steering clear of the Streamliner. Based on what I've read it seems like the Streamliner won't have the hi-fi clarity that the Shuttle amps have.

Yeah, I'm gonna be hard pressed to switch from my 9.0 to something else like the Streamliner. It just does everything I need it to do.

But I am excited to hear this thing. I'm a sucker for that big super clean tube sound.

The shuttle 3.0 was/is amazing sounding, and I"m glad to have it in my stable, but it also let me know that if Genz Benz can deliver a more 'tubey' variant of this basic sound then the Streamliner will be just about perfect. Not to knock the Shuttlemax stuff, which I'm sure is excellent as well.
