Genz Benz Streamliner-Pt 2

Hooray and damn; I'm sure it sounds amazing but I'm not really looking for a tubey amp. Oh well, at least I saved my retinas :ninja:

Actually, I believe that they recessed the LEDs a bit more on the Streamliners, relative to the Shuttles. They are still WAY too bright for my preferences, but as folks indicated, you can always put electrical tape over them (though it does seem like a shame to have to do that).

+1. I love the Shuttle's sound but am steering clear of the Streamliner. Based on what I've read it seems like the Streamliner won't have the hi-fi clarity that the Shuttle amps have.

I'm curious as to where the high frequency roll off is, I asked a while back but don't recall getting an answer. Ed's review seems to imply it gets a good slap tone.

I'm interested in the tubey goodness of this amp but I have two main tones I use: vintage warm finger thump and High fi a$$ and glass funk. This is one reason the RH450 never worked for me, the other is it wasn't a Genz Benz.:ninja:

The 9.0 works best for my needs, but the ability to keep English 60s hipsters in blue suede suits in check with laser equipped sharks has me GASing.

But you may want to also consider that the Streamliner is to have a clean character as in the Holy Grail of clean tube amps the SA200....its not only able to do dirty but clean too..Even though the Streamliner is Class D with the 3D enhancement and full hi voltage tube preamp.
I think Mr Bowlus has one (SA200)... They are pretty clean... Remember,Just because an amp is tube does not mean it is dirty sounding.. Looking forward to hearing the streamliner in gigging sits... and the pretty DI out too.

I do have an SA200, and they do a great clean tone, as well as some very nice, but not over the top, grind.

That being said, having played the Streamliner 900 at NAMM, it did not sound to me like it would be ideal for dialing in the "hi-fi clarity of the Shuttle amps" which SoonerMatt was referring to.

For those of you who'll be reviewing the initial batch of these, please try, if at all humanly possible, to find a buddy and do some blind comparisons. The hype has been so great that it may well be an impediment to any kind of objective evaluation. Don't get me wrong, I truly hope it'll accomplish all its' stated goals, but wow-Streamliners ain't even shipped yet and cancer patients the world over are banking on them as a cure, LOL.

I disagree with TomB. This amp will do hi-fi clarity ......with tube warmth however.

I guess it may come down to individual definition of "hi-fi clarity." FWIW, I do not think of "hi-fi clarity" as being warm, nor do I think that the SA200 exhibits "hi-fi clarity."

The Streamliner did sound clear to my ears, but definitely more warm, and not as airy as the Shuttle 3.0/6.0.

But you've spent more time dialing them in, of course. Maybe that tone's in there, but I just didn't hit upon it.

fair enough. I can definetly leave room for semantics and interpretation.
