I am excited to order a 4OTF. In the middle of a move but once I have an address I'll be ordering one.
I typically run my EQ 'flat' and start with contour (A/blue) all the way off. Depending on the room etc I might bump up the contour to 9 o' clock or so. I only did this once as an experiment, but for a set I turned the mid frequency all the way counter clockwise and pushed the level knob up to 1 o' clock. That gave me another level of low/low mid punch that was almost too much! For me, this rigs sounds so good in its 'neutral' settings that I have no need (as of yet) to experiment with a bunch of different settings. I'd say just play around with it when you're out on the gig and have fun in the process.

To be clear, this was kind of a joke poking fun at Jeff for not having a rechargeable battery inside - which MOST pedals do not have. I don't actually suggest anyone to use a single 9v battery to power these, although this did work to power it on. It is really cool that the design allows for such a range of voltage plus ANY polarity and kudos to the design for this versatility.
I think we all knew you having a laugh - hardly any pedals these days even have a space for a battery - everything is powered from a power supply (and hopefully isolated).

On Magellan, I start with the EQs all straight up and the blue contour at 10-12 o'clock. Yellow has a more old-school sound, and I used it exclusively for a year. Playing more fretless lately, I've been on blue.
But it also depends on which bass. Yellow is great for P-bass + flats. Turning up yellow contour past 12 oclock seems to increase the grunt.
After I settle on contour, I might adjust the mid freq knob but only rarely change the mid level.
Not a super user by any stretch, but these are the settings the work for me.

Yeah, I sold most of my pedals as I didn't want to keep up with the power supplies etc. But of course, I did keep my power supplies and a couple of neat pedals. Still gonna try putting together an 18V battery pack for this 4 OTF. I am putting together a battery powered bass rig and battery powered PA with 12” battery powered sub and a top. And would like to use this pedal with that rig.

I have had good experience with this. Ran 4 pedals for a few hours, still had half life left
Yorkville makes a battery powered PA - think it’s called excursion. Don’t imagine the battery PA’s are all that loud but it might serve your purpose…
I don’t know if 18v is beneficial with the 4 otf. Being that it will take 9-18 and either polarity - I wouldn’t be surprised if the power gets “normalized” before actually hitting the voicing part of the “ innards”.
I guess I could test it but it’s been great at 9V so I have t played there yet.

There is greater headroom and slightly different OD characteristics with a higher power supply voltage. It’s most noticeable with high output basses and heavy touch.
That doesn’t necessarily mean that the higher voltage supply is better or worse sounding, just a little bit different.

I do believe the eq's are boost/cut, so if you adjust the mid frequency and leave the mid control at 12, I don't believe there will be any tone adjustment. Correct me if I'm wrong.

yes, this is correct. The GAIN control will provide cut and boost but if set at noon, there would be no cut or boost, turning the mid frequency control to any setting would not change the tone at all, until you either cut of boost a given frequency.

Finally released our covid project single. recorded at our respective homes - usb drop offs, google drive and finally mixed. Used the Genzler direct with the speaker IR but went for a smoother tone than my usual as it fit the song better. At any rate - please give it a listen.

Thanks for listing these. I have used the Palmer. And I have a couple of larger ones, one I use to power my PJB Double Four. I thought maybe I would put one together specially for the 4OTF and one other pedal.
I absolutely love battery powered versus dealing with AC. Plus one can play anywhere they wish to.

I couldn't say before, but that is the one I am getting. The Sub is already shipping but the Top hasn’t unless it just started; I haven’t checked in a week or two. I think, judging from my talk with the Yorkville guys, that this puppy will put out plenty of SPL for what I want to do with it. Add the 4OTF and another pedal I have that has lots of EQ, and should make for a good overall PA and bass rig. I have a brand new music project I am putting together with a guitar player/vocalist to do duo stuff and have a 2nd guitar player and keyboard player lined up for the larger stuff. Still trying to settle on a drummer. Hey, at my age, this is exciting, as we are going to do all my originals as well as other rock music.
And, I do think you may prefer to run the 4OTF at 18 versus 9. Give it a try.
